The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has distanced itself from the body known as the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP), declaring that the association is neither recognised nor affiliated with the union.
The position was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Ogun State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Council Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, who maintained that LOYAMP has no constitutional backing or authority to operate under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state.
The Council stated unequivocally that no group bearing the name League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners exists within the constitutional structure of the NUJ in Ogun State, stressing that the organisation cannot legitimately claim to represent journalists or media practitioners in the state.
It explained that the only duly recognised NUJ chapel serving the Ogun West axis is the Ota Independent Online Chapel, whose members, according to the Council, are professional journalists providing credible news coverage across the entire Ogun West Senatorial District.
The Council reaffirmed that the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, remains the only recognised umbrella body for practising journalists in the state and would continue to uphold the ethics, professionalism and integrity of the journalism profession.
It therefore advised members of the public, government institutions, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any claim by LOYAMP suggesting that it speaks on behalf of journalists or media practitioners under the auspices of the NUJ.
The Council reiterated its commitment to protecting the credibility of journalism in Ogun State and ensuring that only duly recognised professional bodies operate under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
