The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC ,Ogun State Command led by its State Commandant, CC. David Idowu Ojelabi, has partnered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by the State Commander, Commander Ibiba Jane Odili, to combat and sensitive Nigerians including security personnel on the negative effects of drug abuse and misuse.
Speaking during a visit to the Ogun state command of NSCDC This Thursday on drug abuse and various means of usage and supply routes amongst others , Commander Ibiba noted that drug abuse is been perpetrated and emulated through several means including, friends, neighbourhood, peer pressure, youthful exuberance, child marriage and a host of others.
She also noted that drug usage especially orthodox medicines are usually prescribed and not just taken from the shelves of pharmaceutical shops without proper prescriptions to the user which may ultimately result into abusive tendencies on the part of the administrator and/or user of such drugs.
Commander Odili stated that the NDLEA is trying all efforts to combat the menace of drugs abuse amongst the various categories of people in the society via its largely enhanced intelligence and high-powered personnel spread across Nigeria and particularly Ogun State in this instance.
She further explained the massive arrests and prosecutions that criminals are being subjected to in order to deter their activities on drug related crimes and activities which keeps skyrocketing everyday.
According to her “The Ogun NSCDC has on several instances synergized with the NDLEA to destroy farmlands wherein marijuana and other related plants are being planted so they can deter communities, individuals and outlets from the use and wrongful administration of these illicit drugs especially on the youths amongst others.
Aside these plants, she noted with dismay the use of drug-laced drinks as: “skushi”, and the likes and the use of various means as drugs such: inhaling pit toilet odours, sniffing of gums and a host of other negative means to get stimulated.
These activities, at the end, bring one into a point where one can no longer be redeemable in some instances from the after-effects of such abused drugs and the resultant side effects becomes irreparable in most cases.
To this end, she disabused the belief on drugs being an answers to worrying issues and challenges of life noting unequivocally that drugs do not resolve or bring succour especially permanent solutions to life’s challenges.
While capping up the event, Commandant Ojelabi promised to interface the NDLEA towards more collaboration in the bid to face out or ameliorate this dastardly act within the society.
