The Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) has named Nigerian engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, among 39 professionals appointed to its Capacity Building Committee for a two-year term.
The appointment, confirmed in an official communication dated October 14, 2026, followed an assessment process conducted in accordance with the federation’s Rules of Procedure. FAEO expressed confidence in Idowu’s professional experience and his ability to contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening engineering capacity and institutional development across Africa.
Idowu, a former Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, currently leads the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, which brings together branch chairmen from across Nigeria and the diaspora. Beyond his national responsibilities, he serves on a key committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and is a member of its Hackathon Task Force, where he participates in international initiatives promoting engineering innovation, collaboration and professional development.
The continental committee, chaired by Eng. Shammah Kiteme Munyoki of Kenya, comprises engineering professionals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Angola, among other countries. Engr. Abosede Adewole is also representing Nigeria on the committee, which is expected to support FAEO’s efforts to enhance professional competencies, knowledge exchange and engineering capacity development across member countries.
Speaking on the appointment, Idowu described it as an opportunity to contribute to Africa’s engineering transformation. “I sincerely appreciate the confidence reposed in me by the leadership of FAEO. This appointment presents another opportunity to promote engineering education, professional excellence and institutional collaboration. I look forward to working with colleagues across the continent to strengthen capacity-building initiatives and expand opportunities for young engineers,” he said.
He called for stronger partnerships between academia, industry and professional engineering institutions to address Africa’s technological and skills gaps. “Africa cannot afford to remain behind in a rapidly changing technological world. We must invest in developing a competent, innovative and globally competitive engineering workforce while ensuring that academic training responds to industry needs and emerging technologies,” he stated.
The appointment is expected to enhance Nigeria’s participation in continental engineering development efforts, particularly in promoting professional capacity building, technical knowledge sharing and the development of engineering skills required to drive innovation, industrial growth and sustainable development across Africa.
