In a strategic move to strengthen institutional partnerships and expand collaboration in Nigeria’s communications and engineering ecosystem, the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT). The visit took place at the NIGCOMSAT Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 22 January 2026, and was led by the President of NIEEE, Engr Felix Adegboye, FNIEEE.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between both institutions and securing NIGCOMSAT’s support in advancing NIEEE’s professional, technical, and policy-driven objectives. Speaking during the engagement, Engr. Adegboye underscored NIEEE’s role as the foremost professional body for electrical and electronic engineers in Nigeria, highlighting its contributions to technical policy development, professional capacity building, and advisory services to government agencies and institutions in support of national development.
Responding, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, expressed appreciation for the visit and disclosed that engineers constitute nearly 40 per cent of NIGCOMSAT’s workforce, reaffirming the organisation’s natural alignment with NIEEE. She also approved the request to establish a NIEEE Desk Office within NIGCOMSAT, aimed at facilitating closer engagement with NIEEE members working in the organisation and strengthening professional collaboration.
Mrs. Egerton-Idehen further outlined NIGCOMSAT’s initiatives in technical training for young engineers, its partnerships with international satellite vendors, and the independent management of its Network Operations Centre and satellite services. She welcomed NIEEE’s support in areas such as policy formulation, strategic development, and emerging fields including Artificial Intelligence, while also expressing interest in joint efforts to improve public awareness of both organisations’ activities.
The engagement concluded on a positive note, with both institutions expressing commitment to sustained collaboration in professional development, policy reviews, digital skills empowerment, and satellite and ICT advancement. The visit was described as cordial and productive, opening new pathways for institutional cooperation that will contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s engineering capacity, fostering innovation, and supporting national development goals.
The courtesy visit forms part of NIEEE’s broader strategy to align with key industry stakeholders, deepen professional relevance, and position engineering expertise at the centre of Nigeria’s digital and technological transformation.
