The Ogun State government has organized a multinational conference for the Alternate Medicine Practitioners and the Complementary Medicine Practitioners, towards achieving a better result for the well-being of the people,
The conference was also meant to provide efficient and affordable health care for its citizenry, promote mutual relationship, find a joint solution to diseases, and instil a synergy, between Alternate and Complementary Medicine Practitioners, achieve better results for the well-being of the people and create synergy between the two practitioners in the State,
Declaring open the one-day conference with the theme ‘’Moving Forward With Nature’’, at June 12, Cultural Center, kuto Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Health and Social Well-being Dr. Tomi Coker, said the gathering was the first of its kind to have Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners together under the auspices of Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB),so as to activate mutual benefits between the foreign and the native natural medicine.
Dr. Coker said the present administration was fully committed to ensuring that the health sector and the sub-sector consisting of natural medicine synergize for the health benefits of the people of the State, adding that government would embark on a necessary partnership with other countries of the world that specialize in the Alternates Medicine practices to build capacity for the state practitioners.
In his contribution, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Kayode Oladeinde, appreciated the State Governor, for his ingenuity in creating OGAMB as a coordinating agency for Traditional and Complementary Medicine in the state, saying the gesture had gone a long way in reducing the pressure on medical personnel as the secondary contact due to synergy between the orthodox practitioners and Alternate medicine practitioners in the State.
He noted that the collaboration between the sub-sector was key to further engender innovative ideas and exchange knowledge which showed that there is no monopoly of knowledge.
The Permanent Secretary said that the best knowledge was when one understands his or her limitations in the line of duties and makes necessary referrer to the appropriate quarters, which would make the job easier and save a lot of lives, urging the practitioners to always refer their patient on time when it is necessary.
In her welcome address, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB) Dr. Mrs. Kafayat Lawal , appreciated the cooperation and turn out of the participants at the conference, saying the present administration would continue to hold such conferences and workshops from time to time to promote healthy collaboration and building capacity in the sub-sectors.
In his closing remarks, the Conference Coordinator, Dr, Cyril. Omisande appreciated the State governor and congratulated the Health Commissioner for being the first to organise such a conference in the southwest, noting that it was the second to be organised in the whole country.
