Heavy rainfall did little to deter supporters of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as hundreds of grassroots mobilisers converged on the Skating Ground, Panseke, Abeokuta, on Tuesday for the Abeokuta South edition of the Door-to-Door Team Yayi Canvassers Engagement Series.
The event, which attracted canvassers from across the wards and communities in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was marked by a large turnout despite the inclement weather, underscoring the growing grassroots momentum of the political support group ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Participants, comprising artisans, professionals, traders, youths, women, farmers, market men and women, as well as Community Development Association (CDA) members, reaffirmed their commitment to mobilising support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates across the state.
Speaking at the engagement, the State Coordinator and Convener of the Door-to-Door Team Yayi Canvassers, Hon. Niyi Opeibi, commended members for their resilience and dedication, particularly their decision to attend the programme despite the downpour.
He urged the canvassers to sustain the momentum by intensifying grassroots mobilisation and voter education across their respective neighbourhoods ahead of the 2027 elections.
Opeibi explained that the group is an independent support organisation established to mobilise support for Senator Adeola and other APC candidates in all the 20 local government areas of Ogun State.
According to him, the uniqueness of the movement lies in its people-driven structure, stressing that it is not a platform for politicians but for ordinary citizens committed to the continued development of the state.
“Our strength is in the people. The Door-to-Door movement is made up of artisans, professionals, youths, farmers, traders, market men and women, and members of Community Development Associations.
We are taking the message of progressive governance directly to the people,” he said.
The canvassers expressed confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the representation of Senator Adeola at the National Assembly, the developmental strides of Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the ideals of the APC.
They also pledged to continue engaging residents in every ward, street and community to encourage wider participation in the electoral process and support for the ruling party.
Among prominent APC leaders and government officials who attended the event were former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni; APC Chairman in Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Henry Fagbenro Agbomola; former Ogun APC Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lemboye; Senior Legislative Aide to the President of the Senate, Hon. Wilfred Olufemi Allen-Taylor; Special Adviser to the Governor, Ambassador Dr. Rotimi George-Taylor; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Housing, Hon. Tobi Doregos; member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele; former lawmaker, Hon. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa; Iyaloja of Kemta/Itoku Adire Market, Alhaja S.A. Akamo, alongside several other party leaders and stakeholders.
The organisers described the turnout as another indication of the increasing acceptance of the grassroots mobilisation initiative in Abeokuta South and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the campaign across Ogun State.
