Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende, has been conferred with the Honorary Citizenship of the State of Georgia, United States, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship, philanthropy, economic development and community service.
The honour was presented during an official legislative session of the Georgia State Senate on July 14, 2026, by Senator Dr. Donzella James of Georgia Senate District 28. The recognition followed a Special Commendation issued on December 1, 2025, celebrating Egungbohun’s lifetime achievements in leadership, humanitarian service and positive impact on communities in Nigeria and beyond.
In the citation read by Senator James, the Georgia State Senate described the Ogun State-born businessman as a goodwill ambassador whose integrity, visionary leadership and commitment to humanitarian causes embody the ideals of international friendship, cooperation and sustainable community development.
Receiving the honour, Chief Egungbohun expressed appreciation to Senator James, the Georgia State Senate and the people of Georgia for the recognition, pledging to remain committed to promoting global business partnerships, investing in human capital development and supporting vulnerable communities across the world.
A native of Ebute-Igbooro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Egungbohun began his entrepreneurial journey after completing his education in his hometown. He founded IBD Farms in 2003, which has since grown into IBD IMPEX Ltd, a diversified conglomerate with interests in logistics, hospitality, quarrying and real estate.
The group’s operations have generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs while contributing significantly to commercial activities, infrastructure development and economic growth in Nigeria.
Beyond his business accomplishments, Egungbohun has distinguished himself through the Ibrahim Dende Foundation in Nigeria and IBD Global Impact International in Canada, organisations that have provided scholarships, healthcare support, youth empowerment programmes, humanitarian assistance, business mentorship and welfare interventions for widows and vulnerable families.
His contributions to community development have earned him several honours, including his installation as the Oluomo of Yewaland by the Yewa Traditional Council, as well as recognitions from the City of Brampton in Canada, the Green and White Champion Award, the Oduduwa Development Initiatives and other national and international organisations.
The latest recognition by the Georgia State Senate further strengthens Egungbohun’s growing international profile and highlights the global impact of his entrepreneurial achievements and sustained commitment to humanitarian service.
