Ogun APC Aspirant Dismisses ₦2 Billion Fraud Allegation, Describes Claims as Political Gimmick
…”My record in office remains clear and verifiable- Hunye
Former General Manager of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Hon. Abayomi Hunye, has dismissed allegations of a ₦2 billion Fraud levelled against during his tenure, describing the claims as politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation over his governorship ambition.
Reacting to the allegations, Hunye said the accusations were not new, noting that they had previously been raised and investigated without any evidence of wrongdoing being established against him.
According to him, when the allegations first surfaced, he was directed to proceed on leave to allow for investigations, maintaining that no credible findings were made against him throughout the process.
“The allegations are not new. When they were first raised, I was asked to proceed on leave to allow for investigations. However, no credible findings were ever established against me,” he said.
Hunye further revealed that the Ogun State House of Assembly had also intervened in the matter by inviting all parties involved, stating that he honoured the Assembly’s invitation on two occasions, while those making the allegations failed to appear and provide evidence to support their claims.
He explained that he later resigned from his position as Special Adviser to the Governor to pursue his governorship ambition.
Defending his record as OGWAMA boss, Hunye said his administration achieved significant growth in the agency’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which increased from about ₦600 million to ₦2.8 billion through reforms, innovation, improved efficiency, and efforts to block revenue leakages.
“My record in office remains clear and verifiable. Under my leadership, OGWAMA’s Internally Generated Revenue grew from approximately ₦600 million to ₦2.8 billion through revenue diversion blockage, reforms, innovation, and improved efficiency,” he stated.
The former OGWAMA chief argued that the public circulation of the allegations through the media before the commencement of any formal investigation was evidence of a deliberate political agenda designed to frustrate his aspiration to become the next governor of Ogun State.
“The fact that these allegations are being publicly circulated through the press before any investigation has even commenced only proves that this is a political gimmick aimed at damaging my reputation and frustrating my aspiration to serve as the next Governor of Ogun State,” he said.
Despite the allegations, Hunye expressed readiness to cooperate with any lawful investigation, expressing confidence that the truth would ultimately prevail.
He assured his supporters that he would remain focused on his vision for Ogun State and would not be distracted by what he described as political antics.
“I welcome any lawful investigation and remain confident that the truth will prevail. I will not be distracted by these antics. Instead, I remain focused on my vision for Ogun State and committed to serving the people with integrity and purpose,” Hunye added.
