…Explores Emerging AI Technologies During Industrial Visit to iFLYTEK
Nigerian engineer, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, has further strengthened his international engagement in artificial intelligence and technological innovation following his participation in the Experience China: Innovation for the World, Intelligence for the Future International Academic Exchange Programme, held at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, Anhui Province, China.
The international programme provided a platform for participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds to exchange innovative ideas, share knowledge, showcase emerging technologies, and explore opportunities for international collaboration in science, engineering, and technological development.
During the programme, Idowu delivered an oral presentation, highlighting the growing relevance of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging technologies in addressing contemporary societal challenges. His participation underscored the importance of innovation-driven research and the application of intelligent technologies to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainable development across critical sectors.

A major highlight of the programme was an industrial visit to iFLYTEK, one of China’s leading artificial intelligence enterprises, renowned for its advancements in intelligent speech technologies, natural language processing, and AI-powered solutions. The visit provided valuable insights into the practical applications of artificial intelligence, demonstrating how technological innovations are being translated into solutions across education, healthcare, communication, and other industries.
Speaking on the significance of the programme, Idowu emphasised the importance of international knowledge exchange, technological collaboration, and exposure to advanced innovation ecosystems in strengthening engineering capacity and accelerating national development.
According to him, artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming industries and redefining professional practice, making it imperative for engineers, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to embrace emerging technologies and develop the competencies required to remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.

He noted that Nigeria and other developing economies stand to benefit significantly from increased investment in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, technological education, capacity building, and stronger partnerships between academic institutions, government, and the private sector.
Idowu further stressed that technological advancement should not be measured solely by the sophistication of innovations but by their ability to address real-world challenges, create opportunities, improve livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He maintained that the future of engineering lies not merely in developing systems that work, but in building systems that matter and deliver measurable impact on society, a philosophy consistent with his advocacy for Engineering of Impact.
His participation in the international exchange programme and exposure to China’s advanced artificial intelligence ecosystem further underscore the importance of international collaboration in strengthening technological capacity, promoting innovation, and advancing engineering excellence.
Idowu remains committed to promoting innovation, international knowledge exchange, and the responsible application of emerging technologies to address societal challenges, while contributing to the growing visibility and recognition of Nigerian engineering professionals on the global stage.
