Courage, Determination to speak the truth and inspiration from God almighty have been described as keys for Journalists to Deliver on their mandate as members of the fourth estate of the realm.
The wife of the Founder of the Victory Life Bible Church, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, Reverend Mrs Fola Achudume stated this during the maiden edition of New Year prayer organised by the NTA Abeokuta Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Reverend Achudume who gave the NUJ Members and other guests, some soul lifting admonition, emphasised that the practitioners of the pen profession in Ogun State must strive to maintain good relationship with God in order to sustain the core essence of the profession.
The Clergy further explained that she and her husband Apostle Lawrence Achudume hold Ogun State Council of NUJ in high esteem and will always continue to pray for the progress of the Union.
She admonished Journalists to wait to be made by God.
Reverend Achudume highlighted Power of Illumination that make someone to see and navigate where he or she is heading to, Power of Instructions to hear God’s commandments, Power to be empowered that will bring about creativity, Ideas, and be distinguished among others as the requirements for a man to witness the Change that God gives.
Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the prayer session, Reverend Mrs Achudume encouraged women to approach their roles with the fear of God, emphasizing the need to leave a positive legacy for future generations urging the womenfolk to always use their opportunities wisely and not compromise on integrity.
According to her ” I will candidly encourage every woman the opportunity that God has given on to us , let us use it right , let’s do it with the fear of God , let’s do it , understanding that integrity matters . I also want every woman to know that whatever you do affects people around you and our aim is to leave a good legacy , a name that your children will enjoy living on even tomorrow when you’re gone.”
The Acting General manager of NTA Abeokuta, Kehinde Onada, represented by the Manager News and Current Affairs, Doris Olumoko, lauded the initiative of the New Year prayer organised by the NTA Abeokuta Chapel describing it as a welcome development.
The AGM assured that the station will continue to broadcast credible news and programmes as he promised members of staff of adequate welfare packages in the year 2024.
The General manager therefore charged the staff to redouble their efforts so as to surpass the success recorded in 2023.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists Ogun State chapter Comrade Wale Olanrewaju stressed the importance of journalists in society.
He urged his colleagues to uphold truth and maintain a sense of purpose in their work, acknowledging the risks associated with journalism.
“I want to charge journalist that as we are starting this prayer let us start with renewed determination and a sense of purpose , let us know that we are very important in the society, Nigerians call for us now to speak the truth and always stand by it.”
The Chairman, NTA Chapel, Comrade Adeyemi Dalemo appreciated everyone for coming and emphasized the need to commit their ways to God for protection in their challenging roles.
