
The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, has elected Engr. Bosede Modupeola Oyekunle, FNSE, as its 11th Chairman. The election was held during the Chapter’s 11th Annual General Meeting, Awards and Election on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the APWEN Lagos Innovation & Resource Hub, Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos.
The event, which attracted distinguished members, past leaders, and guests, also produced a new set of executives who will pilot the affairs of the Chapter for the 2025–2027 session. They include Engr. Zansi Adebowale (Vice-Chairman), Engr. Suwebat Oriyomi Abubakar (General Secretary), Engr. Mosope Adewuyi (Assistant General Secretary), Engr. Uchechi Edosomwan (Technical Secretary), Engr. Omolola Dorcas Ogungbile (Assistant Technical Secretary), Engr. Fatimoh Opeloyeru (Financial Secretary), Engr. Oluwashina Adebayo (Treasurer), Engr. Lilian Uzodiagu (Publicity Secretary), Engr. Olamitope A. Dawuda-Adesanya (Assistant Publicity Secretary), Engr. Stella John-Taiwo (Ex-Officio I), Engr. Rita Mekwunye (Internal Auditor) and Engr. Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi, FNSE, who now serves as Immediate Past Chairman.
The occasion was also used to appreciate the outgoing executives under the leadership of Engr. (Dr.) Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi, FNSE, FNIEEE, for the remarkable work and achievements recorded in the past two years.
In her acceptance speech, Engr. Oyekunle expressed gratitude to members for entrusting her with the leadership of the Chapter and paid glowing tribute to all her predecessors and their team for their dedication and visible accomplishments.
She pledged to focus her administration on three key pillars aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Member Empowerment (SDG 8) through mentorship and financial inclusion of female engineers; Visibility (SDGs 5 and 8) by celebrating achievements and creating opportunities for professional growth; and Professional Growth (SDGs 4 and 9) by investing in training, leadership advancement, and continuous learning.
Engr. Oyekunle assured members that her leadership would be anchored on teamwork, transparency, and open communication, adding that the new executive team was committed to taking APWEN Lagos to greater heights.
Profile of Engr. Bosede Modupeola Oyekunle, FNSE
Engr. Bosede Modupeola Oyekunle, FNSE, is a distinguished Engineering professional with more than two decades of progressive experience across Engineering design, construction, and procurement management for both offshore and onshore facilities. Over the course of her career, she has executed and led projects for leading International Oil Companies (IOCs) including ExxonMobil, Shell Nigeria, Seplat, Chevron, Addax, INEOS, and 3M.
Her expertise spans HAZOP, HAZID, design reviews, infrastructure projects, and chemical facilities, where she has consistently demonstrated technical excellence, innovation, and leadership. Currently serving as Project Team Lead, Instrumentation & Control, Engr. Oyekunle oversees the successful and timely delivery of multi-location projects, leveraging her wealth of engineering knowledge and managerial acumen.
She has previously served as Senior Instrumentation & Control System Engineer at DeltaAfrik Engineering Limited, where she contributed to projects ranging from conceptual studies to detailed engineering design and construction management. Her professional journey is reinforced by extensive training, workshops, and participation in international seminars.
Academically, Engr. Oyekunle holds a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan. She also possesses multiple professional certifications in offshore safety and quality assurance.
Her contributions to engineering and society have been widely recognized. Notable accolades include being named Worley STEM Ambassador (2022), CED 100 Most Influential Women in Construction & Engineering (2021), and Worley Women in Engineering Honoree (2019). Since 2019, she has served as a Project Champion for Worley Foundation STEM Communities, inspiring and empowering over 2,700 students in partnership with APWEN across Nigeria.
A committed professional, Engr. Oyekunle is registered with COREN and is a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), International Society of Automation (ISA), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET UK). She is also a Member of the NSE Editorial Board.
Her leadership record includes serving as Past Treasurer, NSE Victoria Island Branch, Past National Publicity Secretary, APWEN, Past Vice Chairman, NIEEE Victoria Island, and most recently, Vice Chairman, APWEN Lagos Chapter before her election as the 11th Chairman of APWEN Lagos Chapter (2025–2027). In 2023, she represented NSE at the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Open Forum of the Industry Consumer Advisory Forum (ICAF).
Beyond engineering, Engr. Oyekunle is an Advanced Leader and Communicator with Toastmasters International, where she mentors professionals in public speaking, leadership, and technical communication.
She is happily married to Prince Abiodun Adewale Oyekunle, and they are blessed with children.
