The Chairman of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. John Ogundare Campus, of Lagos State, has been dragged before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Lagos State House of Assembly over alleged misappropriation of the council’s fund.

The allegations against the Chairman were contained in a petition sent to the EFCC and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In the petition signed by Comrade Abiodun Iyanda on behalf of the Legislators and Concern Tax-Payers of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area, Campus was accused of diverting funds earmarked for critical sectors, including health and education.

According to the petition, among the allegations were failure to pay running costs to various departments of the council based on the 2023 Budget; neglecting balance payments to past political office holders against governmental advice; Unauthorised project execution and contract awards without legislative approval; Non-adherence to the 2023 budget for school and Primary Health Care construction/renovation; and failure to comply with legislative requests for income and expenditure records.

The group also accused the Treasurer and Auditor of the LCDA of dereliction of duty by withholding financial details and full activities reports.

“Before now, the Council’s legislative arm had confronted Campus over the deficit in the 2023 budget.”

The Concern Legislators and Tax-Payers of Eti-Osa East Development Council Area also expressed concern over the alleged concealment of financial misdeeds by influential political leaders and monarchs, urging the authorities to investigate and prosecute if necessary.
