  • FAEO appoints Nigerian engineer, Idowu, to continental capacity development committee* The Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) has named Nigerian engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, among 39 professionals appointed to its Capacity Building Committee for a two-year term. The appointment, confirmed in an official communication dated October 14, 2026, followed an assessment process conducted in accordance with the federation’s Rules of Procedure. FAEO expressed confidence in Idowu’s professional experience and his ability to contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening engineering capacity and institutional development across Africa. Idowu, a former Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, currently leads the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, which brings together branch chairmen from across Nigeria and the diaspora. Beyond his national responsibilities, he serves on a key committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and is a member of its Hackathon Task Force, where he participates in international initiatives promoting engineering innovation, collaboration and professional development. The continental committee, chaired by Eng. Shammah Kiteme Munyoki of Kenya, comprises engineering professionals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Angola, among other countries. Engr. Abosede Adewole is also representing Nigeria on the committee, which is expected to support FAEO’s efforts to enhance professional competencies, knowledge exchange and engineering capacity development across member countries. Speaking on the appointment, Idowu described it as an opportunity to contribute to Africa’s engineering transformation. “I sincerely appreciate the confidence reposed in me by the leadership of FAEO. This appointment presents another opportunity to promote engineering education, professional excellence and institutional collaboration. I look forward to working with colleagues across the continent to strengthen capacity-building initiatives and expand opportunities for young engineers,” he said. He called for stronger partnerships between academia, industry and professional engineering institutions to address Africa’s technological and skills gaps. “Africa cannot afford to remain behind in a rapidly changing technological world. We must invest in developing a competent, innovative and globally competitive engineering workforce while ensuring that academic training responds to industry needs and emerging technologies,” he stated. The appointment is expected to enhance Nigeria’s participation in continental engineering development efforts, particularly in promoting professional capacity building, technical knowledge sharing and the development of engineering skills required to drive innovation, industrial growth and sustainable development across Africa.

Abiodun: Government of Egypt to invest in Ogun Agro Processing Zone

…says North African nation targets plantations, processing, food export

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has disclosed that the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, under its Food Security Plan, has shown interest in the Agro Processing Zone located in the Gateway International Agro Cargo Airport, along Iperu-Ilishan Remo Road in the state.

According to the governor, the North African nation had signified interest to have farm its plantations in the zone, plant crops, process the produce and also export the proceeds back to the home country.

Abiodun, who added that the representatives of the Egyptian Government would be coming to Ogun very soon and finalize the details of their investment, gave this disclosure during an interactive session with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ogun State chapter, in Abeokuta, at the weekend.

“Last week I met with the national President of the Rice Farmers Association in Abuja, it is a good opportunity for me to inform you that he is working with a team of Egyptian farmers from the Egyptian Government who have the policy of food security and they identified Ogun State as one of the states they will like to partner with.

“So on the 16th of this month, the representatives of the Egyptian government in agriculture will be coming to Ogun State.

“Their interest is the Agro p
Processing Zone; they want to have farm plantation there, they want to plant, they want to process and they want to export back to Egypt under their Food Security Plan.

“They have done their research and were convinced that Ogun State is one of the states that is strategically located for them to invest in, to farm, to process and to export,” Governor Abiodun stated.

While noting that his administration was poised to encourage foreign and local agric investors to partake in the out-grower scheme where land will no longer be allocated to them but to local farmers and other interested parties in the state, he declared “it is the belief of this administration that the idea would further help to empower farmers in the state”.

“What we are trying to encourage now is that every foreign or even local company that wants to farm, we’ve discouraged allocating land to them, we are no longer disposed to given land to them, we will rather encourage them to do a out-grower scheme where we will give land to you and say whatever it is you want to do, go and teach them how to do it and then we can buy it from them so that we can use that to empower you”, he added

On the request by the Ogun State AFAN that the state government should help members get agriculture related grants either through the Central Bank of Nigeria or other sources in the country, Abiodun urged the association to keep their ears to the ground, promising that as soon as his administration gets wind of such opportunity, it will take full advantage of it.

“There are different funding options available, either through the CBN or other sources in Abuja, and often time, we in the south do not take advantage of the funding opportunity, some of them require counterpart funding, some are even grants.

“My charge to you is to help sniff around and keep your ears to the ground so that you can intimate us if there is anything. As soon as we get wind of it, we will go there and take advantage of it,” the governor assured.

He, however, informed the farmers that his administration would look into the proposal by the Association on the need to have an Ogun State-owned Anchor Borrowers Programme, promising to also look into the possibility of having members of the association appointed into agriculture related government agencies.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Prince Segun Dasaolu, who led members of the association on the visit, congratulated Governor Abiodun on his well-deserved victory at the governorship polls, noting that the association is happy with the outcome of the election.

Dasaolu urged the state government to look into the prospect of having its own Anchor Borrowers Programme, positing that “there are lots of opportunities, grants available for the state government to tap into for the commencement of its own Anchor Borrowers Programme”

He, however, thanked the governor for accompanying members of the Association to meet with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, submitting that the association was poised to take full advantage of the Ogun State Agro Cargo Airport.
