ABEOKUTA — The Immediate Past Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, has formally handed over the leadership of the Branch to his successor, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Musa, FNSE, following the successful conclusion of the Branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of new Executive Committee members.
Idowu, who continues to serve as Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, formally relinquished his position at the Abeokuta Branch after completing a two-year tenure as the 17th Chairman, spanning July 2024 to August 2026. The handover and signing ceremony also marked the commencement of the Musa-led 2026–2028 administration.
Speaking during the ceremony, Idowu described the opportunity to serve the engineering body as a profound honour and privilege, expressing gratitude to God Almighty, Past Chairmen, Elders, Executive Committee members, committees, sponsors, partners, members and friends of the Branch for the trust, cooperation and support extended to his administration throughout the two-year journey.

Reflecting on his stewardship, the former Chairman acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of previous administrations, stressing that the achievements recorded under his leadership were built on foundations laid by those who served before him.
“We did not start from nothing. We inherited the sacrifices, experiences, lessons, institutions and legacies of those who served before us, and we consciously built upon that foundation. Within the time and resources entrusted to us, we gave our very best,” Idowu said.
He noted that his administration pursued its responsibilities with energy, speed, teamwork and a strong sense of purpose, adding that he was fulfilled to be leaving behind a Branch that is stronger, better equipped, more visible, better than they met it and well positioned for its next phase of development.
According to him, the programmes sustained, assets acquired, institutional relationships strengthened and new initiatives introduced during the two-year tenure were not personal accomplishments but enduring contributions to the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch.

Idowu maintained that the success of an administration should ultimately be measured by the strength of the institution it leaves behind and the foundation it provides for succeeding leaders to achieve even more.
Addressing his successor, Idowu expressed confidence in Musa’s ability to take the Branch to greater heights, noting that the new Chairman has the advantage of continuity, having served as Vice Chairman in the immediate past administration as well as in other capacities within the Branch.
“To my successor, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Musa, FNSE, you have the advantage of continuity, having served as Vice Chairman of the outgoing administration and having previously served the Branch in other capacities. I therefore hand over with confidence in your understanding of the Branch and its aspirations,” he stated.
Idowu urged the new Chairman and his Executive Committee to consolidate on the achievements recorded, introduce fresh ideas and take the Branch beyond the accomplishments of the outgoing administration.
“The true measure of institutional progress is for every succeeding administration to perform better than the one before it. I sincerely pray that the 2026–2028 administration will consolidate on the gains recorded, surpass our modest achievements and take NSE Abeokuta Branch to even greater heights,” he said.
Reflecting further on the conclusion of his tenure, Idowu said he was leaving the office of Chairman with “gratitude rather than entitlement, fulfilment rather than regret, and confidence rather than uncertainty about the future of our dear Branch.”
He stressed that leadership positions are temporary and tenures inevitably come to an end, but the responsibility to serve the engineering profession and society must continue beyond the occupation of any particular office.
According to him, that philosophy represents the essence of his “Engineering of Impact” agenda — using every opportunity and platform entrusted to an individual to solve problems, add value, strengthen institutions, develop people and leave enduring footprints for others to build upon.

“My tenure as Chairman of NSE Abeokuta Branch has ended, but my commitment to the Nigerian Society of Engineers and to the advancement of the engineering profession remains unwavering,” Idowu added.
While his tenure at the Abeokuta Branch has ended, Idowu remains actively involved in the leadership of the Society through his position as Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, where he coordinates and provides leadership for the collective platform of NSE Branch Chairmen.
Giving an indication of his future plans within the Society, Idowu said the conclusion of his tenure at the Branch level would not mark the end of his leadership journey in the NSE. He expressed his desire to continue offering his experience, energy and ideas in service to the Society whenever opportunities arise at higher levels.
“I believe there is still much more to contribute to our great Society. Having had the privilege of serving at the Branch and other levels of the NSE, and still serving as Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, I look forward to opportunities in the nearest future to serve and contribute at a higher level nationally, subject, of course, to the confidence and support of our members,” he said.
He added that any future aspiration would be driven by the same philosophy of Engineering of Impact, stressing that leadership should always be about service, measurable results and creating greater value for members, the engineering profession and society.
In his response, the new Chairman, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Musa, FNSE, expressed appreciation to Idowu for his leadership, service and contributions to the growth of the Branch during his two-year tenure.
Musa acknowledged the achievements of the immediate past administration and assured members that the new Executive Committee would build on the foundation already laid while introducing fresh ideas and programmes aimed at taking the Branch to greater heights.
The handover formally brought the curtain down on the 2024–2026 administration led by Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, and ushered in the 2026–2028 administration of Engr. Dr. Adekunle Musa, FNSE, with a commitment to continuity, consolidation and greater accomplishments for the Branch.
