The Nigeria Police Force has called for stronger collaboration among government, traditional institutions, security agencies, stakeholders and members of the public to address insecurity, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West Geopolitical Zone and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, made the call during a strategic working visit to Ogun State.
DIG Fayoade urged community leaders to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible intelligence, while charging Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to sustain regular engagement with their communities to strengthen grassroots policing and enhance public confidence.
The visit, undertaken on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, provided an opportunity for high-level engagements with the Ogun State Government, traditional rulers, security agencies, critical stakeholders, police personnel and the Police College of Information and Technology.
The engagements were aimed at reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven and community-based policing.
Addressing stakeholders at the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Hall in Abeokuta, the Deputy Inspector-General said the nationwide tour was designed to strengthen internal security, deepen community policing and accelerate the adoption of technology in modern law enforcement.
The stakeholders’ forum attracted representatives of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, labour and transport unions, youth organisations, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), as well as sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps and TRACE.
DIG Fayoade later held a strategic session with officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command, where he commended their professionalism, dedication and operational achievements. He charged them to remain disciplined, accountable and committed to the highest standards of integrity, respect for human rights and quality service delivery, while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption and other forms of misconduct.
The Deputy Inspector-General, accompanied by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, was received at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, and members of the Command Management Team.
As part of the visit, DIG Fayoade paid a courtesy call on the Ogun State Government, where he was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who represented Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. He conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector-General of Police and appreciated the state government’s continued support for the Nigeria Police Force.
The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Police in promoting peace, security and public safety across the state.
The Deputy Inspector-General also visited the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, where he commended the traditional institution for its unwavering support for security initiatives. He underscored the critical role of traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution and strengthening community policing.
In his capacity as the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of ICT, DIG Fayoade concluded the visit with an interactive session at the Police College of Information and Technology, Kobape, Abeokuta. He applauded the institution’s contribution to building the technological capacity of police personnel and encouraged continuous innovation and professionalism in advancing the Force’s digital transformation agenda.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, expressed appreciation to DIG Fayoade and AIG Moshood for the impactful visit and strategic guidance. He assured them that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity, accountability and respect for human rights while deepening collaboration with government, traditional institutions, security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, urging residents to continue providing timely, credible and actionable information to support efforts at combating crime, noting that security remains a shared responsibility.
