
Detectives of the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when the suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, before attacking him in an attempt to dispossess him of the bike.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, a witness at the scene raised the alarm, which prompted a swift response from police operatives.
The statement noted that the victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
Babaseyi added that the suspect was apprehended at the scene, while the motorcycle and the knife allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing and assured residents that justice would be served.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
