Rethinking Governance in Osun State
As Osun State approaches the 15th August 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections, it is important for citizens to reflect deeply on how we are governed and how we are represented at the State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.
The biblical principle of “iron sharpening iron” should guide our political culture, yet the opposite seems to be happening. The state executive has struggled to innovate or introduce transformative ideas, and the State House of Assembly has, in the view of many, become filled with individuals who do not represent our best values or capabilities.
Osun needs leaders—men and women—who are educated, exposed, experienced, and driven by innovation. At the local government and constituency levels, we must put forward our most capable individuals. Community leaders should play a meaningful role in the selection and nomination processes within political parties to ensure that credible candidates emerge. When leadership positions are left in the hands of mediocrity, poor governance becomes inevitable.
Superficial or mundane considerations should never determine who leads us. Over the past three years, citizens have seen limited empowerment and little innovation aimed at improving the local economy. This trajectory must change.
Osun needs a leadership team that thinks strategically, looks inward, and leverages the state’s resources to create sustainable wealth. The state requires a governor and a team capable of developing a clear blueprint to lift Osun from stagnation to genuine economic advancement.
Osun must also work toward integrating its economy more effectively with the wider South-West region and Nigeria as a whole.
While some regions, such as the South-East, are often noted for having governors who are seen as creative and dynamic, Osun must ensure it is not left behind by elevating its best minds.
From this perspective, we citizens believe that supporting a candidate like Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji represents a step toward treating governance as serious business, one that demands creativity, competence, and accountability from all involved. May God guide the people of Osun toward the right decisions as we move into this critical electoral season.
