2027 Elections : Opposition Interested in Ogun Treasury, Not Public Service- Says Yayi

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has accused opposition politicians in the state of pursuing personal interests aimed at gaining access to the Ogun State treasury rather than serving the people or advancing the state’s development.

Speaking at a meeting with the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes (market leaders) in Remoland held at his senatorial office in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, Adeola reacted to claims by former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello that she left the APC after he allegedly failed to fulfil promises, including refunding her campaign expenses following his emergence as the party’s consensus governorship candidate. He described the alleged demand for reimbursement as “insulting,” insisting he never asked her to join the governorship race.

Adeola said his consultations with Obasanjo-Bello were part of efforts to reconcile and engage party stakeholders but that he later concluded her interest was driven by personal gain rather than public service. He further alleged that after failing to secure what she wanted from him and the APC, she aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, in pursuit of similar personal benefits.

The APC flagbearer also dismissed the legal challenge against his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate, alleging that it was orchestrated by political opponents.

He argued that politicians who defected to another political party after May 10, 2026, were not eligible to contest the forthcoming governorship election under existing legal provisions, while also claiming that the PDP remained embroiled in unresolved leadership disputes.

Earlier, the President of the Council of Iyalajes and Babaalajes in Remoland, Chief (Mrs.) Olufunke Oyelaja, pledged the group’s support for Adeola’s governorship ambition, expressing confidence in his ability to promote traders’ welfare and stimulate economic growth across Ogun State.

The remarks were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
