Hundreds of youths and students on Wednesday staged a solidarity trek in Abeokuta, Ogun State, declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The procession, organised by the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), commenced at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, and moved through major streets of the state capital before terminating at the Ake Palace, where the organisers addressed participants and the media.
Speaking at the palace, the Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Engr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the solidarity trek was organised to demonstrate support for President Tinubu’s expected re-election bid, Governor Abiodun’s reported senatorial ambition and Senator Adeola’s governorship aspiration in Ogun State.
According to him, the exercise was inspired by what he described as the economic reforms of the Tinubu administration, as well as the developmental initiatives and empowerment programmes of Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.
Akintunde said the initiative was also designed to mobilise young people for active participation in the democratic process while reaffirming their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He commended Senator Adeola for his contributions to youth empowerment, constituency development and infrastructure projects across Ogun State.
“We have every reason to support our principals because we are confident that, come 2027, they will record a landslide victory. Over the past three years, President Tinubu’s reforms and Senator Yayi’s track record in empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency projects have continued to inspire many young people to support their leadership,” Akintunde said.
Participants in the trek carried banners and placards bearing messages of support for the three political leaders while chanting solidarity songs during the peaceful procession through major roads in Abeokuta.
Also speaking, a Co-Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, described the exercise as peaceful, orderly and a demonstration of the movement’s commitment to unity and youth participation in politics.
Odeneye, who represented Ijebu Central Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, commended Akintunde for providing leadership that, according to him, has strengthened cohesion among the movement’s youth and student wings.
“The Youth and Students Wings of the movement have conducted this peaceful and orderly exercise under our supervision. This initiative promotes unity, encourages active political participation and strengthens youth engagement within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
“We also want the public to know that we remain firmly aligned with our leaders and fully support the position expressed by our Convener. They have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership, and we are pleased to organise this exercise in support of their vision as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum,” Odeneye said.
The organisers said the solidarity trek formed part of ongoing mobilisation efforts by the Yayi Progressives Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
