The long-awaited restoration of electricity to communities across Ogun Waterside Local Government has officially commenced, fulfilling the commitment made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI), to reconnect over 50 communities that have endured years of darkness.

The flag-off took place during a well-attended town hall meeting in Abigi, where Senator Adeola met with residents, party faithful, community leaders and other stakeholders from across the local government.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Adeola reaffirmed his commitment to completing the electrification project on or before December this year, assuring the people that every necessary resource had been deployed to ensure the timely completion of the project.

He explained that the electricity challenge first came to his attention during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting with APC leaders and stakeholders from Ogun Waterside a few weeks ago. At the meeting, community representatives highlighted the prolonged blackout affecting more than 50 communities, prompting him to immediately promise intervention.

In fulfilment of that commitment, Senator Adeola dispatched a team of engineers to carry out a comprehensive technical assessment of the affected communities. Following the assessment, contractors were mobilised to site, and work has now commenced on restoring electricity to the affected areas.

Senator Adeola also charged residents and indigenes of Ogun Waterside to take collective responsibility for protecting the electrical infrastructure during and after the execution of the project, stressing that safeguarding public assets would guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply and ensure the long-term success of the intervention.

The electrification project is expected to restore electricity to over 50 communities, stimulate economic activities, improve security, support businesses and significantly enhance the quality of life of residents across Ogun Waterside Local Government.

Among those in attendance were the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; Professor Awonusi; Prince Segun Adesegun; Senator Lekan Mustapha; Hon. Abiodun Abudu-Balogun; Alhaji Olatunde Rufai; the member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Samsudeen Lawal; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Ogunbanjo; former Executive Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon. Lateef Adekunle Mudashiru; the Executive Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon. Odunnake Ganiu; Senior Special Assistants to the Governor; representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); APC leaders from Oni, Etire, Abigi, Ilusin/Lukogbe and Ibiade Wards; party leaders from Ogun Waterside and Ijebu East; traditional rulers; religious leaders; and other stakeholders.
