WE ARE COMMITTED TO OUR EDUCATION SECTOR-GOV ABIODUN

The Ogun State Government, has reiterated that education remains an important cornerstone of its development agenda, underscoring its commitment to fostering an education system that equips students with the needed skills to excel in an ever-changing world.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known during the 5th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, saying since May 2019, his Administration has prioritised education as part of its “Building Our Future Together” initiative.

The Governor represented by his Deputy Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, revealed that the Graduation ceremony indicates that education is both a journey and a transformation, noting that education was not just about acquiring knowledge or earning certificates, but also about shaping minds, building character, and empowering individuals to make a positive impact on society.

He informed that the institution continues to demonstrate unparalleled commitment to academic excellence and development of skilled professionals with the aim of ensuring meaningful contributions to the society.

In his admonition to the graduands, the Governor charged them to note that, the day marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, enjoining them to put to use the knowledge, skills and values gained in the cause of their studies as they step out into the world and become problem-solvers, innovators as well as change-makers.

Governor Abiodun presented the overall best graduating student for 2021/2022 session, Ifunaya Agu, Overall best graduating student for 2022/23 session, Victor Omontuhen and the Overall best graduating student for 2023/24 Session Suliat Yusuf a cash gift of Two million Naira each.

The guest lecturer, Prof Abayomi Fashina, in his lecture titled ‘Polytechnic Education and the Future of Nigeria’s Economic Growth and Development’, expressed the need for the institution to be more innovative in their programmes as well as entrepreneurial initiatives, especially in the area of turning in Resources, Ideas, Skills and Knowledge (RISK) to wealth.

Prof. Fashina noted that, the polytechnic needs to create an industrial hub, network with Telecommunication companies and have students sell ideas to lecturers, while urging graduands to embrace challenges, stay committed to their vision and always strive for excellence, as they are the future workforce of the nation.

In his address, the Rector of the Institution, Dr. Sanni Oseni, said the celebration of excellence culminated from the years of hard work, dedication and perseverance, noting that the graduands have successfully navigated the rigorous academic terrain and were now poised to embark on exciting new chapter in their professional journey.

In her valedictory remarks, the overall best graduating student, Miss Yusuf Suliat, appreciated the school management, lecturers and non-academic staff of the Institution for nurturing and building excellent future leaders annually, imploring fellow graduands to continue to be good ambassadors of the Institution, strive for excellence and set targets for their goals.
