The governor of Ogun State has said the Tinubu-led administration has designed a plan of action aimed at generating higher GDP growth, which would facilitate a notable decrease in unemployment.
He added that the administration was working to restructure the economy and bring about growth and development.
Abiodun who was a key note speaker at the Osun NUJ 2023 dinner and award day/ award of excellence as Icon of developmental governance and inclusivity.
The keynote address themed: Nigerian Economy, Political Evolution: Prospect or Retrospect and Way Forward, according to him strikes a chord with the current discussion in the nation, particularly in light of the remarkable economic changes implemented by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the and his spectacular economic reforms.
Abiodun added that the president while stating that subsidy’s rising expenses are no justification of the depletion of resources hence, the need for funds to be reallocated to improve public infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment initiatives that will significantly enhance the lives of millions of people.
“ Without mincing words, President Bola Tinubu has not left anyone in doubt of his capability and cognitive capacity to tackle our national challenges headlong and change the narrative positively for the good of all.
“ He came into the saddle with a clear direction for his administration’s economic policy, which revolves around lifting impediments to a friendly business climate, revenue generation, elimination of multiple taxation, monetary policy reforms, ease of doing business, and growth of the economy that would engender shared prosperity for all Nigerians.
“ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu initiated wide-ranging policies in fidelity to the pledge he made to put Nigerians at the center of government policies and address business-unfriendly fiscal and monetary policies, especially the multiplicity of taxes.
“ The president’s preference for a market-driven economy, especially the growing quest to maximize revenue growth for developmental purposes, is also a move in the right direction.
“ In his quest to remodel the economy to bring about growth and development through job creation, food security, and an end to extreme poverty, President Tinubu has charted a course of action targeted at achieving higher GDP growth, which would in turn enhance a significant reduction in unemployment.This is what the President intends to accomplish through budgetary reform to stimulate the economy without engendering inflation and industrial policy to utilise the full range of fiscal measures to promote domestic manufacturing and lessen import dependency.
“ President Tinubu, from the position of an infomed analysis, has said subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. He announced the need for us to re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, healthcare, and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions.
Abiodun while reeling out the achievements and growth of Ogun state stressed that the Ogun State Business Environment Council (OGBEC) and the Ogun State Investment Promotion Agency (OGUNIPA) was created to institutionalize a favourable business environment that draws in both local and foreign investors.
He also appreciated the leadership of the Osun NUJ for the honour and recognition, promising to always regard the media as the public’s conscience.
