A member of the House of Representatives, Rep.  Kafilat Ogbara, has appealed to Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu in its efforts at repositioning  the economy.

Ogbara (APC– Kosofe) made the appeal while speaking at her Constituency Town Hall Meeting on Friday in Lagos.

She said Tinubu had the political will and capacity to fix the economy and other national challenges , adding that the various reforms of the present administration would soon yield the desired results.

The lawmaker said that Tinubu was committed to a better Nigeria and was working assiduously to transform the nation.

“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu made a lot of promises before the election ; these promises will be fulfilled.

“He has the political will, and courage to fulfill all promises and ensure Nigeria does not remain the same.

“Things will change. By the time the Federal Government starts full implementation of Tinubu’s first budget , we are confident things will change.

“I plead with you (citizens)to be more patient and persevere . There shall be ease and we shall be comforted,” Ogbara said.

The lawmaker, while expressing her commitment to alleviating sufferings in the constituency, said that she would continue to empower women, youths and people with disabilities .

“We have great plans for women to make sure there is turnaround in your businesses.

“We shall demonstrate part of it here by empowering our women, the physically- challenged because we believe in inclusiveness ” she said.

The lawmaker thanked constituents for their consistent support for her, saying her decisions and actions at the House of Representatives had been guided by their concerns and aspirations .

She said that the meeting was an opportunity for her to give account of her stewardship and to receive feedback from the people towards improving her performance as a representative of the constituency.

“Since taking the oath of office at the 10th Assembly, I have vigorously engaged in the three basic functions of the legislature: law making, oversight and representation.

“Together, we have made strides in our federal constituency, but there is still much work to be done,” she said.

Highlighting some of her achievements since assuming office, Ogbara said that she had moved six motions and that three of her bills were at second reading

She said the bills included :The National Senior Citizens Centres Act (Amendment Bill) 2023.,the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (Amendment Bill) 2023 and the Federal Medical Centre Kosofe Lagos State (Establishment) Bill, 2023.

Ogbara listed medical outreaches, building of viewing centres for youths, digging of boreholes, rehabilitation of 11 roads as well as donation of 20,000 textbooks and exercise books to school children as some of her achievements as representative of the area.

The lawmaker said that she had also distributed palliatives to the needy, school uniforms and branded white socks to students and had empowered small and medium business owners in the constituency.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that Ogbara empowered women, widows and some physically-challenged persons ,including a blind vulcanizer ,with N200,000 each ,at the programme.

Also speaking, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Mr Cornelius Ojelabi commended Ogbara for acquitting herself remarkably well as a representative of the constituency.

Ojelabi thanked the people of Kosofe for believing in APC and for voting Ogbara ,saying he was glad the lawmaker was representing the constituency well.

“I am happy she has lived up to the expectation. Engaging the people and getting the feedback is very important.

“I want to say you have started very well. Please, continue to engage the people. Within six months, you have introduced six motions and have bills to change the lives of people.

“I commend you once again and I wish you all the best” he said .

On the economic challenges facing the nation, Ojelabi assured Nigerians that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

He called on religious leaders and all Nigerians to pray for the success of the present administration and a better nation.

“It is so tough in town, there are so many issues, I want to urge our leaders, especially religious leaders ,to continue to pray for our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“The hope will be renewed. Asiwaju is up to the task, continue to pray for him and by the grace of God, things will be better,” he added.

Ojelabi said that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had started to empower the people of the state to alleviate impact of the present economy on them.

“Those you have voted for know what you are passing through and they are working, let us be patient,” he said.

The event was graced by many stakeholders, including party faithful, religious and traditional leaders, traders, artisans among others.
