As part of his philanthropical gesture and bridging the gap between the rich and poor especially during this holy month of Ramadan and Lent, an aspirant for the Ogun State House of Assembly , Olalekan Jiboku, has distributed food items to one hundred and fifty residents of Abeookuta South.
The donation exercise, which took place on Saturday across several communities in Abeokuta South saw hundreds of residents benefiting from various food packages aimed at supporting families during the fasting period observed by Muslims and the reflective season for Christians.
While speaking with newsmen, Jiboku said the gesture was part of his commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community and promoting unity among residents irrespective of religious affiliation.
He noted that the twin spiritual seasons provided an opportunity to demonstrate compassion and care for others.
According to him, the distribution was targeted at widows, the elderly, artisans, and low-income families who may find it difficult to cope with rising living costs during the fasting season.
He urged residents to use the sacred period to reflect, promote peace, and pray for the progress and stability of Nigeria.
“This season reminds us of the importance of sacrifice, love, and compassion. It is a time when we must show kindness to one another and extend support to those in need within our communities,” he said.
He further called on Muslims observing Ramadan and Christians marking Lent to offer special prayers for the nation’s leaders and for peace, unity, and economic recovery across the country.
“We must continue to pray for our dear country. With collective prayers and commitment to good values, Nigeria will overcome its challenges and move toward greater prosperity,” Jiboku added.
Some beneficiaries who received the food items expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely support amid current economic difficulties. They commended the aspirant for remembering ordinary residents during the religious season.
Community leaders also praised the initiative, noting that acts of generosity during Ramadan and Lent help strengthen communal bonds and encourage others to support humanitarian efforts within Abeokuta South and the wider Ogun State.
