The Oomik Fish Farmers Association in Ipokia Local Government hosted Otunba (Hon.) Bisi Oyedele- Citiside, the Member representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly; in a grand event to appreciate his contributions to the growth of the fish farming hub in the area.
The gathering attended by leaders, stakeholders and fish farmers; was filled with praises for Citiside, whom they described as the “first politician to make promises and fulfill them”. The association acknowledged his key role in ensuring the clearing and dredging of their waterways, a long-standing challenge that had hindered their operations.
In his address, the Chairman of the Oomik Fish Farmers Association expressed gratitude for the lawmaker’s intervention; stating that for years, they had struggled with flooding and erosion, leading to significant losses. He noted that while many politicians had come with promises, Hon. Citiside distinguished himself by not only listening to their plight but taking concrete action to resolve it.

“We have seen politicians come and go, making promises that never materialized. But Hon. Bisi Oyedele- Citiside is different. He listened to us, visited our farms, saw our challenges firsthand and took action. Today, we are witnessing the benefits of his dedication,” the chairman said.
In response, Citiside reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of his constituents, especially the fish farmers whose contributions to food security and economic development remain crucial. He highlighted the recent deployment of the swamp buggy to clear waterways and control flooding, a move that has already started yielding positive results.

“I am not a politician who makes empty promises. I believe in action. Seeing the challenges you faced, I knew something has to be done, and I thank Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for his support in making this possible. Our work does not stop here; we will continue to find more ways to enhance your productivity and ensure that fish farming thrives in our constituency,” he said.
The group also extended their appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his interventions in the agricultural sector and his unwavering support for fish farmers in Ogun State. They acknowledged his role in facilitating projects that have significantly improved their working conditions and livelihoods.

Furthermore, the fish farmers lauded the contributions of Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, describing him as a true leader who has not only supported fish farming initiatives but has also trained and empowered numerous farmers with startup kits. They noted that Senator Adeola’s empowerment programs have provided many of them with the necessary tools and knowledge to expand their businesses and improve productivity.
Scintillatingly, the event was also attended by traditional rulers, party leaders and community elders; who commended Citiside’s hands-on approach to governance. The fish farmers pledged their continued support for his leadership, stating that they now have renewed confidence in political representation that genuinely cares about their development.
With the successful dredging and improved water flow, along with training and empowerment programs, fish farmers in Oomik are optimistic about increased yields and reduced losses, marking a significant step forward for the industry in the region.
