Ogun Waterside Local Govt. Chairman, Odunnoiki Seeks Stakeholders Collaboration

“Knowledge they say is power” this was the situation on Wednesday 4th June, 2025 at the Conference room at the Secretariat when the Hon. Odunnoiki led Administration in Ogun Waterside Local Government, Abigi in line with the directive of the State Government through the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission on the need to train and retrain members of staff particularly the Junior ones as that of the Senior staff are being carried out by the Commission from time to time.

The Executive Chairman, Hon. Odunnoiki AbdulGaniyu Adetoye challenged staff to join hands together with him in shaping the fortune of the Council Area as he wished to make life more meaningful for the inhabitants and wanted to leave the local government better than he met. As such, he said he’s operating an open door policy because, anyone with useful information concerning how to move the council area forward will be welcomed and encouraged.

He stressed that, he thought of having a programme such as training of this magnitude in a bid to change the orientation of some of the staff as he believes that most of them don’t know why they were employed into the service. He later declared the training open

The training recorded a massive turnout of members who were enthusiastic about the kind gesture of this present administration, as it was noted that they have not had it so good like this in the past.

Speaking earlier, the head of Local Government Administration, Elder Odusoga Monsuru Olalekan emphasized on the importance of training and retraining of staff as the fallout will enhance capacity building, and performance. He also talked about the chain of communication between members of staff in the Local Governments

Presenting the first paper, Director, General Services and Administration, Mr Ogunyonwo Olasupo dwelled more on the need to have a full understanding of the do’s and don’t in the service as it’s contained in the Local Government staff regulation for all Local Government staff. He stressed that there are numbers of actions and inactions taken by staff that can consume ones job such as lateness to work, indebtedness which could result into financial embarrassment, absenteeism without permission, abscondment, truancy, use of abusive languages, etc saying that each of these has different punishment under the extant law guiding the service.

Similarly, Mr. Sodeinde Olanrewaju Ajani, the Director Finance and Supply Department presented the second paper titled; “Significance and Applicability of Model Financial Memoranda (FM)” and he took time to do justice to the rudiment of accounting, all what is expected of an officer handling cash or even receipts for the local government.

He further explained that every staff of the local government are tax collectors and immediately any amount is received on behalf of the Council such an officer must pay it into the government purse and take a Treasury receipt.

He explained further that financial memoranda is not only meant for the finance and supply department but also for all other departments in the Local Government.

Also speaking at the event on behalf of the staff, the NULGE Branch Chairman, Comrade Adefowora Abayomi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Chairman, Management Team, the Two Facilitators as well as other Directors and Heads of Departments for the success recorded and pleaded for more training like this to be holding at interval for members of staff so as to increase their professionalism and productivity while on duty. He also extended the appreciation to the staff who showed readiness to learn new things by their turnout today.
