Ogun Voters Community Warns Against Premature Campaigns Ahead of 2027

Abeokuta – The Ogun Voters Community, a socio-political advocacy group, has raised concerns over the growing wave of advocacy messages and early campaign manoeuvres by various groups across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, David Shipeolu, the group described the messages as orchestrated attempts to impose predetermined outcomes on the people. It said the trend, presented as advocacy for public interest, amounts to eye service, popularly called ati je ati mu.

According to the group, democracy thrives when ideas are freely tested, choices are open to citizens, and political competition is transparent. It warned that manufactured consent through stunts and early propaganda undermines democratic values and weakens public trust.

The Ogun Voters Community emphasised that Governor Dapo Abiodun remains the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and retains the constitutional authority to guide any succession process. The group noted that Abiodun’s record in infrastructure, social investments and economic expansion gives weight to his judgment on the political future of the state.

On the issue of equitable representation, the group acknowledged the aspirations of different senatorial districts and stressed that fairness and rotation should continue to guide the state’s democratic practice. However, it cautioned that the manner of pursuing these aspirations matters. Divisive campaigns and strident rhetoric, it warned, would only fragment the state and weaken its political strength.

The statement called for leadership anchored on merit, competence and character. It added that effective leadership cannot be manufactured by publicity machinery but is revealed through years of tested service, capacity under pressure and moral authority.

“As 2027 approaches, the conversation must rise above personality contests and empty advocacy,” the group said. “Ogun people deserve serious debates on economic vision, educational reforms, healthcare delivery and security architecture.”

It urged political actors to place unity above ambition and build consensus across Ogun East, Ogun Central and Ogun West. The group reaffirmed its commitment to equity, merit and responsible politics, expressing confidence that citizens will choose wisely when the time comes.

“The future of Ogun State belongs to all of us,” the statement concluded. “It is through collective wisdom and unity of purpose that we shall secure it.” Shipeolu stated.
