Ogun Police Intensify Crackdown on Traffic Violations, Warn Against Road Obstruction

The Ogun State Police Command has stepped up enforcement of its ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock,” declaring zero tolerance for all forms of road obstruction across major towns in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said persistent traffic congestion in Sango Ota and Sagamu has been largely attributed to indiscriminate parking by motorists and the activities of traders who encroach on roadways to display goods.

The Command described such practices as unacceptable and warned motorists, traders, and public transport operators to desist from actions that impede the free flow of traffic.

These include illegal and double parking, indiscriminate stopping on active lanes, loading and offloading passengers on the carriageway, as well as trading on roads and walkways.

According to the statement, the operation is already in full swing, with personnel of the State Motor Traffic Department, Area Traffic Officers, and Divisional Traffic Officers strategically deployed to enforce compliance and ensure smooth vehicular movement in Sango Ota, Sagamu, Mowe, Ifo, and other parts of the state.

Motorists have been directed to use only designated parking areas when picking up or dropping off passengers, while traders are mandated to operate strictly within approved market spaces. The police also urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement officers.

The Command acknowledged that ongoing road construction projects in Sango Ota and Sagamu may be contributing to traffic congestion but stressed that compliance with traffic rules would significantly ease movement despite the situation. It added that previous traffic bottlenecks in Mowe and Ifo have been successfully cleared and that efforts are in place to sustain the achievement.

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered full enforcement of the operation, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining order, ensuring public safety, and guaranteeing free movement across the state, while calling on residents to support the police in eliminating traffic gridlock.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines, including the toll-free Gateway Shield number: 0800 000 9111, as well as 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
