The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ogun State Council, has strongly condemned the protest by a group of aggrieved pensioners Held today, 8th of December, 2025 in Abeokuta describing it as unnecessary.

Chairman of the union, Comrade Chief Waheed Oloyede and the Secretary, Comrade Bola Lawal, who frowned at the protest noted that the state Governor, dapo abiodun has been making efforts to address pensioners’ welfare.

According to a statement issued to journalists, the Union explained that the governor has approved the payment of palliatives to Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) retirees, and those who retired from July 2, 2025, have already received their payments.

It also stated that retirees from tertiary institutions who voluntarily left service but later met the 35 years in service or 60 years age requirement have been placed under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and paid accordingly.

According to the Union, the government is also preparing lump-sum payments for CPS retirees, which will be released soon. In addition, outstanding gratuities under the Defined Benefit Scheme are being paid yearly, with payments already covering local government retirees up to 2017/2018 and state retirees up to 2019.

The Union further disclosed that the fourth quarter gratuities for 2025 are expected to be released soon. However, it appealed to the governor to approve the long-awaited pension adjustments for older pensioners.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, OGUN state chapter however thanked Governor Abiodun for his commitment to the welfare of pensioners and pledged continued support for his administration, while also promising to keep working with the government to ensure pensioners in Ogun State live with dignity and peace of mind.
