
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ogun State Council, has appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving the payment of a N25,000 end-of-year bonus to pensioners in the state for 2025.
The letter, signed by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Alhaji (chief) W.O. Oloyede, and the State Secretary, Comrade (Dr) Bola Lawal, JP, conveyed the “utmost and profound appreciation” of the executive council and the entire membership of the NUP to Governor Abiodun for extending the N25,000 bonus across all strata of pensioners in the state.
The letter addressed to the governor and made available to newsbarrelng, the union described the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and sustained commitment to the welfare of senior citizens in the state.
According to the union, reactions across various pensioners’ platforms have been filled with praises, prayers and expressions of gratitude to the governor and his administration for what they described as a timely and benevolent intervention.
The pensioners noted that the bonus payment reflects the governor’s “love and sincerity of purpose” towards elderly citizens in Ogun State, praying for divine grace and continued success in his leadership.
While commending the administration for the gesture, the union also used the opportunity to renew its appeal for the approval of the long-awaited consequential adjustment of pensions for aged retirees.
The NUP stated that the adjustment has become necessary in view of prevailing economic and inflationary realities, which have significantly impacted the purchasing power of pensioners.
The union expressed optimism that the governor would give favourable consideration to the request in the 2026 fiscal year to enable elderly and vulnerable retirees live more comfortable lives.
Reaffirming its support for the administration’s vision captured in the mantra, “Igbẹga Ipinlẹ Ogun, Ajọṣe Gbogbo Wa Ni,” the pensioners assured the governor of their continued goodwill and prayers.
Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service.
