Ogun PDP Dismisses Dissolution Report, Says State Executive Remains Intact

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports claiming that its State Executive Committee has been dissolved, insisting that the party’s leadership structure in the state remains intact and constitutionally valid.

This follows an announcement by the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee on Friday dissolving the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect.
Reacting to the development, the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Abayomi Tella, maintained that the current executive members were duly elected on September 24, 2024, and are still within their constitutionally guaranteed tenure.

According to him, the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party provides a four-year tenure for elected executives, noting that the Ogun State leadership has spent less than a year in office.
“The present executive members of the PDP in Ogun State were elected on September 24, 2024. By virtue of the party constitution, particularly Section 47(1), the tenure is four years, and we have only spent about a year and a few months,” Tella said.

The chairman also argued that there had been no constitutional breach that would warrant the dissolution of the executive committee.
“If you also look at Section 58(1), paragraphs A to N, which stipulate the infractions that could attract disciplinary action, none of such has occurred in the PDP in Ogun State,” he added.

Tella further explained that the state chapter of the party has remained peaceful and united despite ongoing political developments across the country.

“We have been very peaceful. However, this is a period of politics and all sorts of things are bound to happen. But we want to assure our teeming members in Ogun State that nothing has happened. The executives remain intact and will continue to remain intact,” he said.

The party leadership also reassured members and supporters of its readiness to remain active in the political process, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We will participate in the election in 2027. We will be on the ballot and we will win the election,” the chairman stated.
While commending the efforts of the national leadership to reconcile aggrieved members across the country, the Ogun PDP urged party faithful to remain calm, united and law-abiding.

“At this point in time, it is important that all of us, without exception, should be ready to make sacrifices. This is necessary if we truly love Nigeria and want the country to move forward,” Tella said.

He therefore urged members not to be distracted by rumours and political speculation, assuring that the party’s structure in Ogun State remains stable.
