The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated former Governor of Ogun State and Senator of the Federal Republic, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, CON, FCA, on the occasion of his 68th birthday.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the union described Senator Amosun as a visionary leader whose administration significantly transformed the architectural and economic outlook of Ogun State.
The NUJ noted that Amosun’s “Mission to Rebuild” agenda remains a major reference point in the state’s history, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development and urban renewal. According to the journalists’ body, the initiative laid a solid foundation for modern governance and repositioned Ogun State for sustainable growth.
The council also highlighted the former governor’s long-standing relationship with the media, describing it as one rooted in mutual respect and a shared commitment to democratic ideals. It stated that throughout his years in public service, Amosun demonstrated a clear understanding of the media’s role in promoting accountability and strengthening democracy.
Commending his economic management, the NUJ recalled that under his leadership, Ogun State recorded significant improvements in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), a development that helped move the state toward financial independence and industrial growth.
Beyond governance, the union acknowledged Amosun’s philanthropic gestures and concern for the welfare of the people said to have continued even after his exit from executive office, describing him as a compassionate leader with a strong sense of service to humanity.
The statement further noted that during his time in the Senate, Amosun made notable legislative contributions, particularly in areas relating to national security, economic stability, and constituency development, adding that he remains an influential figure in Nigeria’s political space.
The Ogun NUJ prayed for good health, strength, and wisdom for the former governor as he marks the milestone age of 68, while encouraging younger leaders to draw inspiration from his work ethic and governance philosophy.
The council wished Senator Amosun a peaceful and joyful birthday celebration and expressed optimism that his future years would continue to make positive impact on Ogun State and the nation at large.
