Ogun NSCDC Takes Two To Trial, Hands Over Others to NAPTIP for Alleged Child Trafficking

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC ,Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, on Monday, February 11, 2025, arraigned one Ogunmodimu Olanrewaju, male, 33 years, at the Ago-Iwoye Magisterial Court for obtaining a total of six hundred thousand naira (#600,000:00) only under false pretence.

The Statement signed by DSC Dyke Ogbonnaya, Ogunkunle NSCDC PRO indicated that the case was reported by one Jimoh Oluwadamilare after his expected job was not realizable and the defendant also having blocked him from being able to contact him again.

He added that the defendant was apprehended, charged and cautioned and he confessed to have collected the sum of six hundred thousand naira (#600,000:00) from the complainant but could not give reasons for his failure to execute the job.

The defendant could not also give reasons why he blocked the complaint from reaching him on phone after receiving the said money.

After thorough investigations, he was charged to the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 on a lone count charge bordering on Section 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006.

During proceedings on the matter in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty as charged and was granted bail while the matter was adjourned to March 24, 2025 for trial.

In another development, one Friday Gift, female, 24 years, was arraigned before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court for stealing and malicious damage of an IPhone XSMAX which was reported by Ogunnubi Elizabeth.

The defendant was said to have received the said phone as official phone to capture work being done while she was working as a stylist for the complainant.

Meanwhile, on December 27, 2024, the defendant ran away with the phone and all efforts to retrieve the said phone from her proved abortive.

Furthermore, the defendant was arrested and brought to the Ago-Iwoye Division by the complainant and one other Sasore Ekundayo Nimay. While at the division, the defendant smashed Sasore Ekundayo on the face with the iPhone XSMAX leaving her with injuries to her face.

The defendant further used her teeth to break the screen of the phone making it unusable.

She was eventually rearrested, charged and cautioned. After completion of investigations, she was charged to the Ago-Iwoye Magisterial Court on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 on four counts bordering on Sections 390, 451, 335 and 249 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006.

During the proceedings in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all count charges and was granted bail while the matter was adjourned to March 17, 2025 for trial.

In a related development, a case of child trafficking of a survivor and minor, female, 16 years, name withheld was transferred to the National Agency for Prohibition and Traffick in Persons and Other Related Offences Commission (NAPTIP).

The various involvements and roles of the suspects, Sakirat Aremu, the mother of the survivor and whose consent was also given concerning her being trafficked; Ogunlaja Ronke and Mary Samuel, in the aborted trafficking of the survivor have been appropriately documented and handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation while the State Command continues to follow up with the matter.

The alleged minor and survivor was intercepted in Sokoto State while being trafficked to Libya with the knowledge of: Sakirat Aremu, female, 39 years; with the support of Ogunlaja Ronke, female, 35 years and Mary Samuel, female, 50 years amongst others.

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, has advised all indigenes and inhabitants of the Gateway State to live harmoniously and within the confines of the law.
