Opinon by : Concerned Ogun East APC Party Members

There is deep and growing concern among loyal party members that Ogun East APC is on the verge of repeating the same costly mistakes that led to our painful losses in 2023.
In 2023, the party suffered a major setback in Ogun East — losing the Governorship election and several House of Assembly seats to the PDP. The root cause was clear: the imposition of unpopular candidates on loyal party aspirants who had worked tirelessly for the mobilization of new members and make several consultations across the leaders in the Senatorial District. That singular act fractured our base, dampened morale, and handed critical votes to the opposition.
If not for the commanding victory of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, YayI in Ogun West, the damage to our party statewide would have been far worse. Ogun East cannot afford another self-inflicted defeat.
The leadership of the party in the State must wake up. What we are witnessing today looks like if not a deliberate trap to weaken Ogun East APC, it is indeed a selfish strategy by some powerful people in the party and sabotage our chances at the polls again. We implore Governor Dapo Abiodun to think properly, review each and every aspirant’s past and present political activities, strength and established zoning arrangement for a particular Constituency with the input of party leaders in each Local Government and Federal Constituency before a suitable and widely accepted candidate could be chosen to fly the party’s flag.
The party’s directive was unambiguous: adopt either Direct Primaries or Consensus. We invoke the spirit of the party to appeal to the consciousness of the party leadership in the State, Baba Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Governor Abiodun to listen to his trusted leaders and ensure that the right candidates who enjoy massive grassroots support aspirants who can independently win elections with the influence of the President or the party are eventually picked.
Let it be on record for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, and all stakeholders that if the above is not addressed, it is capable of making the party fail woefully in the Senatorial District come 2027.
Yayi must take notice that Ogun East Senatorial District is the home and strongest base of our main opposition which be could affect Senator Adeola’s gubernatorial ambition? God forbid All Yayi advocates across Ogun State must rise. We cannot be silent. We must condemn this imposition in the strongest terms.
Ogun East deserves a voice. Ogun East deserves a choice.
