The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibeju-Lekki Branch, has honoured Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, Chairman of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, with an Award of Appreciation in recognition of his outstanding innovation, creativity, technical excellence, impactful leadership, exceptional performance and exemplary service to the Engineering profession. The recognition was presented during the Branch’s Public Lecture, Induction of New Members and Luncheon held at Jata Hotel, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

A major highlight of the event was the public lecture themed “Flooding in Lagos: Why It Happens, Why It Is Getting Worse & What We Must Do,” which provided a platform for discussions on the persistent challenge of flooding in Lagos and the need for practical and sustainable interventions.

The event was chaired by the President of NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, with Ms. Sade Balogun, CEO of Amen Corner Estate and Amen City, as Distinguished Guest of Honour, while sustainability expert and CEO of Natural Eco Capital, Dr. Eugene O. Itua, featured as the keynote speaker.

Also in attendance as a Special Guest of Honour was Hon. Bayo Balogun, Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Electoral Matters, alongside other government, traditional, industry and professional leaders.

Under the leadership of the Branch Chairman, Engr. Olufemi Dare, FNSE, NSE Ibeju-Lekki acknowledged Idowu’s contributions to the Engineering profession, particularly his leadership of the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum. Idowu, who recently completed his two-year tenure as Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, has continued to promote collaboration among NSE Branches, professional development, welfare, mentorship, knowledge sharing and stronger engagement within the Society.

In addition to the award plaque, he received customised commemorative gifts, including a personalised portrait clock and other memorabilia.

Another highlight was the presentation of prizes to winners of the NSE Ibeju-Lekki Branch Innovation Competition, for which Idowu served as Chairman of the Panel of Judges.

He formally announced the results of the competition at the event, after which prizes and gifts were presented to the successful innovators.

Commending the participants for applying creativity, engineering and technology to practical challenges, Idowu encouraged the Branch to sustain the initiative as a platform for discovering and supporting innovative ideas, particularly among young engineers.

He emphasised the importance of moving innovations from ideas to prototypes, from prototypes to practical solutions, and ultimately from solutions to societal impact.

Responding to the honour, Idowu expressed appreciation to Engr. Dare, the Executive Committee and members of NSE Ibeju-Lekki Branch, while commending the relatively young Branch for its achievements in professional development, innovation, young engineers’ engagement, industry collaboration and community-focused initiatives.

He described the recognition as further motivation to advance his “Engineering of Impact” philosophy, which encourages engineers to move beyond technical expertise and professional titles towards delivering transformational solutions for society.

Dedicating the honour to engineers who continue to contribute their expertise and resources to the profession, he stated: “Positions and tenures may come to an end, but genuine impact and meaningful contributions remain. As engineers, our responsibility is to translate our knowledge, leadership and professional influence into solutions that positively transform society.”
