
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, in collaboration with the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, organized a one-day training workshop on Effective Project Implementation at the Grassroots for Local Government Engineers, Builders, Estate/Valuation Officers, and Technical Officers.
Held at the NSE Abeokuta Secretariat on Thursday, 20th March 2025, the workshop aimed to enhance capacity building in grassroots project execution and equip professionals with the necessary skills for sustainable infrastructure development in Ogun State.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of NSE Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, FNSE, emphasized the importance of the training, stating: “This workshop has been carefully structured to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for efficient and effective project implementation.” He further highlighted the crucial role of Engineers and technical professionals in driving infrastructural progress at the grassroots level.
Delivering the Keynote Address, the Head of Service, Ogun State, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, underscored the importance of professional excellence and strategic planning in project execution. He urged local government Engineers and technical officers to embrace innovation, accountability, and collaboration in addressing infrastructure challenges within their respective communities.
The workshop featured seasoned professionals who delivered insightful presentations, including Engr. Babatunde Odunlami, FNSE, who presented a lecture on “Strategies for Efficient Project Execution and Delivery in Local Governments.”, and Engr. Uchechi Edosomwan, FNSE, an experienced Project Manager, delivered a session on “Overcoming Common Challenges in Infrastructure Projects at the Grassroots.”
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, FNSE, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to continuous capacity-building programs to enhance service delivery at the grassroots.
In their separate goodwill messages, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments & Training; Mr. Jola Oyeneye, mni, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms; and Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, urged the participants to ensure they make good use of the lessons learned to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and contribute to the sustainable development of their respective local government areas.
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, allowing participants to engage with facilitators, ask questions, and share experiences. A communiqué presentation followed, emphasizing the need for sustained training programs and professional mentorship for local government Engineers and technical officers.
This collaborative effort between NSE Abeokuta and the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission reflects a strong commitment to enhancing technical expertise and ensuring efficient project implementation at the grassroots level.
