As part of its mandate in deterring oil thieves from the nation’s pipelines, rivers, amongst others, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, impounded 88 sacks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), at Akere, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The sacks of PMS which contain approximately 120 litres each were seized on the Akere Waterways from suspected oil thieves who are currently at large.

The statement by the Public Relations officer, NSCDC, Ogun state Command, added that the findings made by a team of intelligence officers of the Corps, upon arrest of these oil thieves, the arrested PMS is always being jetted out to the Republic of Benin.

In furtherance to the investigations by the intelligence team, it was revealed that the stolen PMS are got from Isalu, around Lagos State via the waterways and each time this arrest is made the perpetrators are always at large via the waterways.

Reacting to these findings, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, Commandant David Idowu Ojelabi noted that the Corps in the State will ensure that it is no longer business as usual for the oil thieves as ogun state is no longer a safe haven for any criminally minded people .

According to him, “I will put all my trajectories and compasses to ensure these illegal activities do not become businesses as usual”, he vowed.

“I will report appropriately to the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Headquarters, Abuja, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, on the recurring activities of these waterway vandals andt the need for high speed jetties to further improve the operational capacity of the personnel”, he added.

Consequent upon this arrest, the State Commandant also warned the general public against these acts of sabotage vowing to ensure that the full extent of law is extended to anyone caught perpetuating these heinous crimes.

He also warned other conspirators to desist from any act capable of making them liable for crimes relating to sabotage of government assets and infrastructure across all parts of the State.

Commandant Ojelabi also strongly sought the cooperation and support of well meaning Nigerians with accurate intelligence and information that could lead to security successes across the State as this will further enhance the responsiveness to security for the betterment of all.

The State Commandant also promised to ensure people-centred security and welfare for the people of the State as these are the major hallmarks of security agencies anywhere in the world.

while addressing journalists, the Commandant restated commitment to build robust synergy with community leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders towards a more peaceful Ogun State.

Meanwhile, Commandant Ojelabi also vowed to work assiduously with other sister security agencies in the State.

“If we work together, we achieve together and we succeed together which is the best philosophy for security successes across the world”, he concluded.
