…As SC Elegbede says Project Points to Fulfilment Of Campaign Promises

The Ogun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo today led the commissioning of a 13-room self-contained hostel complex in Isolu community, Abeokuta, describing the project funded by the Ogun NSCDC Staff Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited as a strategic blend of welfare, security and economic foresight.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Hostel Complex located along FUNAAB, Alabata Road in Odeda Local Government Area, Ekundayo who is also the Matron of the Society said the initiative reflects the Corps’ growing commitment to investment-driven empowerment beyond its core security mandate.

“This is not just about unveiling a building; it is about celebrating vision, foresight and collective commitment to progress,” the Commandant said, commending the cooperative executives for delivering what she described as a “timely and impactful intervention.”
The facility, situated near the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, is expected to provide safe and decent off-campus accommodation for students, while also strengthening security presence within the host community.
Commandant Ekundayo noted that cooperative societies remain critical instruments for financial stability and social support among personnel, urging similar bodies within and outside the Corps to adopt investment-oriented initiatives capable of generating sustainable returns.
Earlier in his welcome address, President of the NSCDC Cooperative Staff Investment and Credit Society, SC Elegbede Ajijola, said the project marked a major milestone in the society’s deliberate transition from a loan-focused structure to an investment-driven model.

He explained that the hostel project was conceived as part of a broader income-generation strategy aimed at strengthening the financial base of members and ensuring long-term value.
“When I assumed office, I made a commitment to reposition the society towards viable investments. Today, this project stands as clear evidence that we have kept faith with that promise,” Elegbede said.
He attributed the success of the project to the support of the Commandant, cooperative members and the host community, noting that sustained collaboration made the vision achievable.

The cooperative president also acknowledged the contributions of the project committee and community stakeholders, including residents of Ifelodun CDA, for their cooperation throughout the construction phase.

The event drew representatives of security agencies, including the police command led by Commissioner Olabode Ojajuni, as well as officials of other sister agencies, underscoring what speakers described as growing inter-agency synergy in enhancing community safety.
In a symbolic gesture during the ceremony, a total of N200,000 was presented as compensation for damages incurred during the construction, with the Commandant personally augmenting the initial N100,000 cheque.

Commandant Ekundayo later conducted an inspection of the facility, expressing optimism that proper management and maintenance would ensure its sustainability and long-term impact.
Stakeholders who included representative of the commissioner of police, Ogun state command, Bode Ojajuni, the Amotekun Corps, So safe, VIO and TRACE at the event noted that beyond addressing accommodation challenges around the university environment, the project also reinforces the role of cooperative societies as catalysts for grassroots development and institutional self-reliance.
