President Bola Ahmed Tinubu once said, ‘Those who can’t accept defeat’s pain don’t deserve victory’s joy.’ This quote resonates with me whenever I see political leaders and their followers struggling to come to terms with defeat after every election.
As President Tinubu aptly put it, democracy’s beauty lies in its unpredictability – today’s winners can become tomorrow’s losers, and vice versa. This message echoes loudly to political stakeholders in Ogun Waterside Local Government, Ogun State, and Nigeria.
To move forward, we must forgive, forget, and re-strategize. Proactive politicians plan ahead, focusing on building strong structures and nurturing people, rather than relying solely on money and connections.
Unfortunately, poverty has been weaponized to prioritize short-term gains over experience, integrity, and leadership prowess.
In Nigeria, a robust financial foundation is crucial for successful leadership. We must learn to lobby effectively by cultivating loyal support across the board, both before and after elections. Power isn’t served à la carte; it demands hard work, dedication, and strategic maneuvering.
