A land dispute in Ogun State has escalated, with the Chief Executive Officer of Young Agro’s Homes and Properties Limited, Ajibola Johnson, accusing a serving councilor of harassment, intimidation, and alleged illegal encroachment.
The dispute involves a parcel of land located at Imo Emulu in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. Johnson alleged that the councilor representing Owode Ward 3, Adekunle Ajayi Lateef, has been using his office and external influence to lay claim to the property.
Speaking with journalists, Johnson said the disagreement, which began in 2024, has intensified despite efforts at peaceful resolution. He alleged that the councilor deployed heavy-duty equipment to clear the land without authorization and maintained presence on the site through suspected thugs.
Johnson also addressed reports linking the matter to Yoruba self-determination activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. He clarified that he only approached the activist to present documents relating to the land.
Reacting, Sunday Igboho denied involvement in any land-grabbing activity, confirming only that Johnson presented relevant documents to him.
In a related development, a legal practitioner, Abiodun Aboaba, disclaimed documents reportedly associated with the transaction, stating that they did not originate from his chambers.
The Baale of Imo Emulu, Chief Mujaidu Balogun, has, however, backed Johnson’s claim, affirming that the land was duly sold to him by the community and that he possesses valid title documents.
Johnson has called on the Ogun State Government and security agencies to intervene to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
Efforts to reach the councilor, Adekunle Ajayi Lateef, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his known contact lines were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
