An appeal has gone to Governor, Dapo Abiodun to help in restoring the lost hopes of traders whose shops were affected by the inferno that gutted Oba Lipede Ultra modern market with cash and donations also to establish a sub fire station in the Locality.
This appeal was made by the Baale of Kuto in Council and Chiefs led by high Chief Mufutau Kehinde the Baale kuto, whom doubles as Jaguna of Ijemo Land, during a sympathy visit of Council of Baale and Chief’s in Kuto, saying they sympathised with the victims as economic situation was harsh. He said the council would continue to plead with Governor Dapo Abiodun to extend his hand of fatherly love and kindness to the victims of the fire outbreak.
His words ” on behalf of the good people of kuto and the entire Kuto Baale in Council Chiefs we appreciated our able governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on his visit to our market that got burnt despite his tight scheduled, but we still want the Governor to help us in assisting all the affected traders of this inferno because time are hard and we don’t want them to join the league of people living with depression as they loss goods and property running to hundreds of million naira also want governor to FasTrack the process of re – construction of the affected part of the building with the provision of mini fire service Station to prevent such an occurrence in future “
He appreciated the governor for stopping the Abeokuta South Local Government Authority from demolition shops at the open market where over 20,000 people are making their daily bread , adding that apart from fire station , Kuto community has developed with higher population and lack many basic amenities, like good network roads, transformers for electricity supply and pipe borne water as people could not easily sink borehole due to the rocky area.
The Iyalode of Kuto Land , Chief (Mrs.) Muyibatu Salau , urged Prince Dapo Abiodun and other government at all levels to rally round and support all the victims of the inferno as some of them are small scale traders trading on credits from the factory while majority are widows catering for their family members from the little business sales at Lipede market.
She enumerated that, over 50 people were the victims of the inferno, appealing to the state government to look into their situation and compensate them so as reduce rate of unemployment among others, adding that Kuto need a standing sub fire station as one of the millennium market in the state, to prevent such an occurrence in future.
The Baba Laje of kuto Land , high Chief Adesoji Olumide , sympathised with the traders and prayed that God Almighty would console them and appealing to the state governor on behalf of all the traders at the Kuto market, that government should help them. He listed other areas they require Government intervention to include: provision of pipe borne water, transformers and Mini fire Service Station among others would made the entire Kuto and it’s axis a competitive commercial centre
