The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Branch Chairmen Forum, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, SMIEEE, with its Beacon of Support Award in recognition of his unwavering support, encouragement and invaluable contributions towards advancing women in Engineering, promoting professional excellence and furthering the vision and impact of the Chapter.
The award was presented during the APWEN Lagos Engineering Summit 2026, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, with the theme, “Bridging Gaps, Building Legacies: Women Engineers Creating Enabling Environments for Growth and Innovation.” The event also featured a public lecture, STEM book launch, Women in Engineering Excellence Awards and the inauguration of Engr. Bosede M. Oyekunle, FNSE, FNIEEE, as the 11th Chairman of APWEN Lagos Chapter.
Speaking at the event, Oyekunle said the recognition of Idowu with the Beacon of Support Award was in appreciation of his unwavering support, encouragement and invaluable contributions towards advancing women in Engineering, promoting professional excellence and furthering the vision and impact of APWEN Lagos Chapter.
She stressed the importance of creating enabling environments and strengthening partnerships that would provide women engineers with greater opportunities for professional growth, leadership and innovation.
Reacting to the honour, Idowu expressed appreciation to APWEN Lagos Chapter, describing the award as further encouragement to continue supporting initiatives that promote professional development, mentorship, innovation and greater participation of women and young engineers in the profession. The NSE Branch Chairmen Forum Chairman noted that supporting women to thrive, innovate and take up leadership responsibilities would strengthen the diversity, capacity and future of the engineering profession.
Idowu also congratulated Engr. Oyekunle on her inauguration, commending her commitment and passion for advancing women in engineering and expressing confidence that her administration would build on the achievements of its predecessors and take APWEN Lagos Chapter to greater heights.
He wished her a successful and impactful tenure and reaffirmed his readiness to continue supporting initiatives that advance women in engineering, professional excellence, mentorship, innovation and engineering for sustainable societal development.
