Otunba (Hon.) Bisi Oyedele- Citiside, representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency in Ogun State House of Assembly, has passionately appealed for the revival and operational take-off of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia. He moved a motion titled “Motion for the Revival and Operational Take-Off of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia: An Appeal for Educational Justice and Infrastructural Preservation” during the Assembly’s plenary session on Thursday 23rd of January, 2025.

The motion, co-sponsored by seven other lawmakers, seeks renewed attention to the polytechnic, which has remained non-operational despite its establishment and recommendation reports submitted by the constituted committee to look into its take-off.

In his submission, he emphasized the immense potential of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, to contribute to the state’s educational and economic growth. He highlighted that the polytechnic was conceived to enhance technical education and drive local development. However, its inactivity has left the host community and prospective students unable to reap the expected benefits while the erected buildings are in sorry-state.

Hon. Oyedele noted that the institution’s strategic location in Ipokia- a border town, positions it to attract students from neighbouring countries like Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana; making it a potential regional hub for academic and cultural exchange. He also stressed the importance of preserving the infrastructure already developed for the polytechnic, which includes lecture halls, laboratories, administrative buildings and hostels.

He urged the state government to prioritize the allocation of funds for the completion and rehabilitation of the polytechnic’s facilities, ensure accreditation of its programs and engage with stakeholders to enable the smooth operational take-off of the institution.

The motion received broad support from fellow lawmakers, who commended him for his thoughtful presentation and his dedication to advancing educational opportunities in Ogun State. The House unanimously resolved to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure the polytechnic’s revival becomes a reality.

In his closing remarks, he expressed optimism, stating, “The revival of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to equitable educational development and the prosperity of our people. Together, we can make this institution a beacon of hope and progress”.
