… Established Joint Security Patrol to address insecurity

The Rector, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapade , Dr. Sanni Kehinde Oseni has assured Students of the institution of the management’s efforts to ensure that their safety within and outside the school campus is guaranteed and prioritized especially with the introduction of Joint security patrol within students residential areas to forestall any forms of insecurity.
The Rector stated this during a one day security summit organised by the institution to sensitise the students against insecurity ravaging the areas and how to remain safe and secured as students.

The Rector who was represented by the Deputy Rector Taiwo Ogunyinka ,maintained that the sensitisation was coming at a critical time when the issue of insecurity in the country has become an epidemic and concerted efforts are required to win the war against menace.
He urged the students to see their security consciousness as a clarion call that will guarantee a peaceful coexistence by adhering strictly to preventive measures put in place.
According to him. ” This Sensitisation is coming at a time and in critical moment when insecurity has become an epidemic in our dear country Nigeria. This training cannot come at a later time than now because we need to keep our students updated on ways to remain secured in this trying time. Suffice to say that the challenges of insecurity are enormous, ranging from the health hazard, lost of belongings, psychological discomfort,and above all, post traumatic stress disorder but to mention but a few.
“The need to be security conscious is a clarion call for all our students to build and consolidate on peaceful coexistence without leaving out our preventive measures on the fight for a peaceful environment.
” At this juncture,I want to emphasize that you are a stakeholder in this fight.
“On our parts, we would ensure a coordinated platform that brings on board all the relevant Stakeholders for a peaceful Saapade.
” Our commitment to fostering a safe and secured environment is paramount. In an ever changing world, it is imperative to foster a safe and secured environment.
” Investing enough security measures is an investment into our collective wellbeing, by doing so, we create an environment where everyone can thrive without fear.
The Rector therefore assured the students that the polytechnic is on top of the situation over the attacks on some of the students by some unscrupulous individuals who carted away some of their belongings.
“We have met with all security parastaltals in Saapade community. The Polytechnic is aware of the joint security patrol within the community, to this end ,the polytechnic has released patrol Van for the joint patrol towards the safety of all.”
“Let me use this occasion to express my heartfelt appreciation for the dedication and tireless people that have assisted in ensuring a secured environment, In the face of these revolving challenges , these individuals have displayed unparalleled commitment to safeguarding our communities. Their vigilance and sacrifices underscore their commitments to our safety, weather patrolling our streets, securing our borders, and responding to emergencies and distress calls”
While seeking for more collaboration among stakeholders to end the menace of insecurity within the school environment, he Speciallly appreciated the Nigeria Police force, The Civil defence, Local vigilantes for their selfless and relentless services.

On their parts, Representatives of various security Agencies Present, which included the The DPO, Isara Police station , CSP Bankole Oluyemi, his counterparts from Ode-Remo Police Station, The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, the DSS and the Deputy Chief Security Officer of GAPOSA, Alebiosu in their separate lectures enlightened the students on different security tips that will be useful for them.
These included, to avoid walking alone while going or returning from school, Avoid late night movement, by not getting accomodation in Hostels that are built in an isolated location, to be conscious of happenings in their environments, living a moderate lifestyle as students, by ensuring that they inform their friends or relatives about their movements, Reporting all forms of security threats to security personnel or school management , they should switch off their generators before midnight so as to be able to hear incase of any distress call ,must board commercial vehicles while travelling at a legally designated motor parks instead of staying by the road road side, among others tips.
The security agencies however notified the students and other residents to be indoor latest by 10 in the night as anyone caught wandering around will be arrested as agreed upon between the school management and leaders within the host communities where students reside.
They therefore assured the students of adequate security of lives and properties while calling for a robust collaboration from the students towards ensuring a well secured environment.
On his part, The Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Busari highlighted strategies adopted by the institution to curb incessant insecurity within the areas.
The strategies included: that students must at all times abide by the school rules and regulations, students must be documented properly on the school portal.
On the the documentation of private Hostels where the students reside off campus, the DSA explained that the registration will serve several purposes, including to ameliorate the exorbitant money paid by students while trying to get apartments as the school authority will interface with landlords to ensure that moderate charges are paid by students as rent, the hostel profiling will also enable security personnel on patrol to secure every residence where students reside.
He also announced the plan by the institution to come to the aid of students in the area of transportation as the institution is planning to procure shuttle buses to convey students as part of the ways to checkmate the heinous acts by some commercial motorcyclists conveying students
