In a remarkable show of community support and healthcare advocacy, FeedNeedy-World-Initiative, a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO), on Wednesday successfully fulfilled its free healthcare outreach to residents of the Ogombo Community, located along the Lekki-Ajah axis in Lagos State.

The event witnessed an impressive turnout, as close to 300 marginalized people, both young and old, benefited from free medical services under the NGO’s health initiative tagged, “Know Your Vitals.”

The outreach included free medical consultations, vital signs checks, weight checks, health education and fitness screening services aimed at promoting better health awareness, especially among marginalized populations and it was free of charge.

Community leaders, including the traditional ruler, local chiefs and elders were present at the venue where they expressed heartfelt appreciation to the NGO, glorifying FeedNeedy-World-Initiative for choosing Ogombo and appealing for the initiative to be repeated for more residents to benefit.

Speaking at the event, Oba Musilu Abiodun of the Ogombo Kingdom, through Chief Samuel Mustapha Amoja, the Olootu of Ogombo commended the organizers, describing the outreach as “a timely and compassionate intervention” in the face of growing healthcare challenges among grassroots populations.

“We are truly grateful to FeedNeedy-World-Initiative for bringing this to our people. Many of our residents don’t have regular access to proper healthcare due to financial constraints, but this program has given them hope. We appeal for more of this kind gesture in the future”, he said.

Also speaking at the event, the NGO’s Creative Director, Ms. Oluwatosin Alayande, expressed that; “the outreach is part of the NGO’s ongoing ‘Know Your Vitals’ initiative, designed to improve community health awareness and early detection of common health conditions, such as; blood pressure blood sugar and others”.

One of the community leaders, Chief Babatunde Ogunleye, the Baale of Idiapara in the Ogombo Community, applauded the organizers for their excellent work and expressed a desire for further assistance in areas of sports, food support, education facilities and access to affordable healthcare facilities.

“We are grateful for these efforts; our people are happy to know their health status. However, we need more interventions. We would be pleased if FeedNeedy-World-Initiative could expand its outreach to include food supplies, the construction of affordable medical facilities, the establishment of schools and talent-hunt programs for our community. We have many talented youths that skilled in football and other social activities and we want to boost social integration,” he added.

Another resident, who identified herself as Mrs Fasanu, expressed her gratitude for the NGO’s generosity.

She said, “I have my blood sugar and blood pressure checked for free and I also receive free medication. As an elderly woman, I don’t have the money to buy medicine. Coming here today, I was well taken care of, and I feel good because I know my health status. I am very happy.”

In addition, Nurse Oko Chidinma Anaga, Head of the Medical Team and a staff member at the Maternal and Child Center, Eti-Osa, praised both the organizers and the residents for their cooperation and orderly conduct throughout the event.

In her words, “This initiative is truly impactful, and I commend FeedNeedy-World-Initiative for their vision. I also appreciate the residents for their discipline and participation. A lot of health issues were identified today. There are many poor conditions that many participants were not even aware of until they were checked and properly advised. I urge everyone to monitor their vitals regularly, as early detection can save lives.”

Founder and Chairman of the NGO, Mr. Isaac Oluwafemi Eromosele, who joined virtually from the United States, thanked his and the community for the success of the program and reaffirmed the NGO’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities across Nigeria and beyond.

Many residents left the venue with renewed hope and valuable health insights, as well as a greater awareness of the importance of routine medical checks, while the management of FeedNeedy-World-Initiative reiterated its commitment to supporting underserved communities in overcoming healthcare access gaps, promising more impactful programs in the future.
