The Councillor representing Ward 14, Imala/Idi Emi in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Victor Olusola, has empowered residents of his ward with gas cylinders, cash support, and solar-powered kit as part of efforts to improve their living standards.
The empowerment programme was organised to give back to the people of the ward and support small and medium-scale enterprises, while also providing alternative power solutions to households within the community.
Speaking during the distribution on Thursday at Imala, Hon. Olusola said the initiative was designed to ensure that governance delivers real benefits at the grassroots.
“This empowerment is my own way of giving back to my people and supporting their businesses and daily needs,” he said.
The councillor explained that beneficiaries received gas cylinders to promote safer cooking, cash empowerment to boost their small-scale businesses, and solar lights to address power challenges in the area.
The councilor also trained the beneficiaries on how to properly use and maintain the solar-powered lights.
It would be recalled that the councillor previously carried out the grading of main roads within his ward, aimed at improving accessibility and ensuring smoother vehicular movement for residents.
Hon. Olusola said “My strategy is to provide timely solutions that will guarantee a smooth driving surface and improve the structural stability of the roads for the benefit of motorists, traders and residents of Ward 14”.
He noted that the poor condition of some internal roads had previously hindered free movement and affected economic activities, adding that the grading exercise would ease transportation and reduce vehicle damage.
Meanwhile, Former Caretaker Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Ibikunle Bayowa, commended the councillor for his consistency in community development.
“I really appreciate the councillor of this ward for what he has been doing. He graded the road leading to the community and continues to empower his people.”
Bayowa urged other political office holders to emulate Hon. Olusola’s leadership style, adding, “When anything concerns this community, he is always on ground.” He also advised beneficiaries to use the items judiciously and not sell them, describing the materials as dividends of democracy.
Also speaking, the Leader of the House at the Legislative Arm of the local government, Hon. Moruf Erubami, described Hon. Olusola as a people-oriented Councillor.
“Hon. Olusola is someone who has the people at heart. What he has done is unimaginable, and the people are overwhelmed,” he said.
Erubami encouraged other councillors to give back to their communities with whatever resources available to them.
He also advised the beneficiaries, saying, “They should use the items wisely and not sell them.”This will encourage the councillor to do even more.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of the ward Mr. Sunday Akintade, said such an empowerment programme had never happened in the town before.
He appreciated the councillor to continue his good work by giving the dividends of democracy to his people.
Beneficiaries, including Mr. Idowu Anisere , Mrs. Olajide Oluwatolani and others also expressed appreciation to the councillor, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
