
An unknown Chemical substance that spreads across some parts of Ijebu Ode to Our Lady Of Apostles Secondary School , Epe Garage, Muslim Girls High School along GRA Erunwon road, popular Oke Aje Market, Oke Owa, Ota Street among others caused pandemonium and disrupted activities of the affected schools shortly after the morning assembly, leaving about 30 students and two teacher hospitalised.
The offensive chemical substance allegedly coming from an unknown location within the GRA, Ijebu Ode allegedly spread to the affected areas causing respiratory problems to students alleged to have been asthmatic prompting emergency response at the Or lady of Apostle Secondary School.
According to the Vice Principal of the School, Mrs. Adeola Borogun the incident was not a gas explosion but a strange chemical smell perceived within the school premises, which immediately prompted an emergency response.
She explained that several students began vomiting and fainting, forcing the school management to call for ambulances from the State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
The Chief Medical Director of Ogun State General hospital ijebu ode , Dr Adeoye Banjo confirmed that a total of 30 students and one teacher brought in for treatment was promptly attended to and were in stable condition, although the exact chemical substance responsible for the incident is yet to be identified.
Permanent Secretary Ogun State Ministry of Environment Dr. Kafayat Lawal alleys fears of any casualty saying that there is no cause for alarm on the incident arising from the in halement of the unknown substance at the Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu – Ode.
Dr. Lawal stated that officials of the Ministry of Environment have already been deployed to test the air concentration to detect the source of the offensive substance and take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, who visited the hospital, confirmed that all affected students are in stable condition and that no life was lost.
He described the situation as calm and under control, while assuring parents and residents that a full investigation would be carried out to uncover the cause of the incident.
He also advised parents to closely monitor their children for any unusual symptoms, as authorities continue efforts to identify the source of the suspected chemical exposure.
