Chemical Odour in Ijebu-Ode: OGEPA GM Refutes Pollution Claims, Attributes Incident to Chemical Reaction

The General manager, Ogun state evironmental protection Agency, (OGEPA)Hon. Kehinde Bello has refuted claims that the chemical odour incident that affected some schools in Ijebu-Ode as a result of air pollution .

Bello disclosed that the incident is more of a security issue than a safety issue .

The general manager of the agency added that the incident could be attached to air pollution , noting that it was mainly restricted to some schools, not the entire ancient town, as be speculated in some quaters.

This particular incident is a chemical odour from different areas of secondary schools in the ijebu ode and ijebu mushin area of the state.

He stated this during his visit to St. Anthony grammar school Esure and the state hospital ensure as well as a private hospal in the town .

He urged the residents and guardians of the school and the environs to be calm as the government is doing everything humanly possible to resolve the issue.

Speaking earlier, the medical doctor at the state general hospital Esure, Dr. Victor Nathaniel stated that 15 students were brought to the facility 12 from private school and 3 from public school within the same environment.

He noted that the student complained that ranges from inhaling of fouls smelling of an irritating chemical odour .

Speaking on the issue, the medic on duty doctor Farouk Raji explained that some of the students brought in helpless and their pause was in the lower hemp, noting that their health is now stable

Doctor Raji added that 5 patients were brought to the facility and have been discharged with still receiving treatment at the facility .

Recall that the chemical odour reaction incident had happened a month ago in our lady of Apostles girls’ school in Ijebu-Ode, and the incident was curtailed by the state government and the relevant agencies
