Ogun State, Nigeria – The Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria (JNTSCN) is once again raising alarm following yet another fatal incident along the Otedola-Kara-Long Bridge axis—an area now plagued with a disturbing frequency of accidents claiming lives and destroying valuable property.
In just the first quarter of 2025, the Kara Bridge corridor has witnessed multiple devastating crashes, reinforcing a grim reality: Nigeria is in the midst of a transportation safety crisis.
“These continual tragedies are no longer isolated incidents—they are a national disaster,” said a spokesperson for JNTSCN. “Lives are being lost, families are suffering, and economic losses are mounting. We must act now.”
JNTSCN in a statement by the Public Relations Unit on behalf of Ogun state chairman, Olu Okeowo is urging the Federal Government, relevant ministries, and transport regulatory agencies to implement stricter safety regulations, particularly in high-risk zones such as the Otedola-Kara-Long Bridge stretch and similar corridors nationwide.
*The committee also calls for:*
Enhanced monitoring and enforcement of traffic laws
Routine inspection of haulage and long-distance trucks
Proper driver certification and health screenings
Speed limit enforcement in high-risk zones
Immediate improvement of road infrastructure and signage
Collaboration is key. JNTSCN appeals to sister safety agencies, stakeholders, transport unions, and the public to unite in a coordinated national campaign to end this deadly trend.
The organization reiterates its full commitment to supporting the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in delivering a safer and more efficient road transport system across the country.
Let the Kara Bridge incident be the last. The time for action is now.
