The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that his administration is now focusing on the road that leads to the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Science, Ajibayo Village, Ajebo Road, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Abiodun also noted that the state government, in partnership with the federal government, will ensure that in the next few months, construction commences on the access road to the institution.

The Governor made this known in his Oke-Mosan office, Abeokuta, when he played host to the board of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, led by the board’s chairman, Dr. Dayo Israel.

“As a matter of fact, we are now focusing on the road that goes to the institution as well. It’s been awarded in the past and abandoned, so a portion of it had been repaired, but it’s gotten to disrepair now.

“The project for that road is on the drawing board; the road leads to Ibadan, and it is one of our essential roads. But, you know, Ogun State is a state of roads; we have more roads in this state than probably any other state in the country, particularly federal roads.

“We’ve been contending with roads that are of higher priority, but now, this budget year, we are going to be focusing on that road.

“In partnership with the federal government, we will ensure that in the next few months, that road begins to be reconstructed so that it also makes it easier to access the institution,” he said.

Prince Abiodun noted that his administration, since it came on board, has been very committed to ensuring that healthcare is available for the people of the state, adding that the presence of the Federal Medical Center in each state is to support state governments in their quest to make healthcare more available for the people.

The governor noted that the state has the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital as a tertiary facility and other secondary healthcare facilities across the state and 236 Primary Health Care Centres across the 236 wards of the state.

He added that his administration is employing the ‘Hub and Spoke’ approach, which allows the people to first visit the Primary Health Care Centers and then proceed to the Secondary and Tertiary Health Centers depending on their needs.

He said that the appointment of Dr. Dayo Israel as the Chairman of the board of the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, is a case of vision meeting with purpose, adding that his coming on board will signal a new dawn in the repositioning of the medical center, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun added that his administration would continue to partner with the health institution, commending the new board chairman for his approach of meeting with stakeholders to share with them his vision and also deepen his relationships.

“I have no doubt that you will come out with a well-distilled and overall strategic vision for FMC, and I am sure that under your chairmanship, there will further be a renewed cooperation and collaboration between the Federal Medical Center and the state government.

“We are committed to providing the needed support for the institution; we are committed to collaborating with the management of the institution,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Israel noted that he would work towards providing strategic leadership, vision, and direction that would help the health institution to increase its resources, revenue, and also attract more funding to meet its needs.

He said that the management would be meeting with stakeholders in the private sector to seek support, donations, and to create funding, building a trust in the name of their families or loved ones at the center, adding that the center would be opened to more private sector support.
